One Sunday night, Mt Washington was terribly excited upon hearing the rapport of a gunshot and the scream of a man.Wm TURNER was found in the street with his arm badly mangled from a shotgun wound. The wound was a dangerous one, and his arm probably amputated. Because of the darkness, TURNER did not see the person who shot him, buthe thinks he knows who it was. Later a warrant was issued by Police Judge HERRIN, charging Smith HARRIS with the shooting. The trial was set for Saturday, and Mr HARRIS was here Tuesday to employ an attorney to represent him. From his account of the affair, he will probably be aquitted on the examining trial. According to HARRIS's version on the evening in question, TURNER was promenading up and down the pavement in front of his (HARRIS's) house, occasionally stopping at the gate and stomping his feet as to attract attention. HARRIS went to the front door and warned TURNER to leave. TURNER responded with an oath, and threw his hand toward his hip pocket as if for a pistol, whereupon HARRIS, raising his gun to his shoulder, fired one barrel, the charge of bird shot taking effect in the arm. It was a great wonder the shot fired was not a fatal one, as the men were within a few feet of each other. For some time, there had been bad blood between the two men, growing out of an unsavory scandal which shook the little town of Mt Washington from center to circumference, and was ventilated to some extent in the courts. This was the cause of TURNER's removal from the Office of Deputy Sherriff. **********************************
