Washington - Last Wednesday, her eighty-first birthday eve, Mrs. Mary Harris was surprised by her grandsons, Paxton and Frank Parrish, and their wives, paying her a visit, bringing gifts and good wishes a little in advance as they could not be with her next day. Thursday morning she went to spend the day with her daughter, Mrs. T. H. Parrish, and Mr. Parrish. Another surprise left her rather breathless when about 10 o'clock friends and relatives began to arrive with gifts, plates and dishes of good things for dinner and "many happy returns." Her grand daughter, Mrs. Eva Ray Pound, presented the birthday cake and Mrs. Bertha Hall as old fashion custard pie, a favorite of "Granny" Harris'. Rev. C.K. Dickey, Mrs. Dickey, Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Harris, Mr. an d Mrs. Bert Hall, Mrs. Eva Ray Pound and two little girls, Doris Ann and Phyllis May; Mrs. R. E. McAfee, Mrs. M. E. Jasper, Mrs. M. E. McAfee and two children, Maurice and Jimmie Lee; Mrs. Nettie Cassell, Mrs. Geneva Dugan, Miss Mariana Harris and R. Lee McAfee made this birthday a very pleasant time for "Granny" and all hope to be with her for her next celebrtion. (I do not know the year of this celebration. Perhaps someone else can add that. I think it was around 1940.)
