Mr. and Mrs. Ben BROOKSof Indiana spent most of last week with his brothers, Joe and Clarence BROOKS here and his sister, Mrs. Florence BELL, City. Only the four left of the 12 boys and girls who grew up here and then went out to make the world a better because they were in it. We have just heard the news of the death of the sister of Mrs. Earl CONLIN who has been ill so long. We tender sympathy to the bereaved ones. A letter from Mrs. Albert STONECIPHER tells of her pleasure in being back in Tennessee, but of her sincere regret in Shepherdsville and Little Flock. We shall miss this charming lady. Mrs. Eva SMITH is entertaining the Wallace SMITH family today, Sunday, October 4th. Birthdays of two of the family, also Mr. and Mrs. Clifford THOMAS and Mrs. THOMAS. This man was overtaken by a severe rainstorm while hunting in a woods and for refuge crawled into a hollow log--The rain continued so long that the wood swelled and the man found himself wedged tightly in the log. Facing low starvation he began to review his past and the many sins both of commission and omission made him feel so small that he crawled out--Ture story got it from a church paper. Cards from Mrs. FERRING and Mrs. Price HOWLETT extol the beauty of Florida and her flowers . We have a nephew down there and he says he gets very tired of flowers all winter. We think he would gladly exchange them for an inch or two of snow and a beagle hound, with a few rabbit tracks throwed in. Little Susan DUNAWAY was quite ill last week, high fever and bowel trouble. Dr. said all due to teething. Mrs. Loretta POWELL made us a visit Sunday, so happy to have her, she is still at the Norton Memorial Hospital and devoted to her work caring for the sick and suffering. Mrs. J. C. GARDNER has been placed in the Ann Nursing Home while she recovers from her recent stroke. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard BISCHOFF had as guests Sunday his father and mother and two aunts and uncles. Mrs. BISCHOFF brought us fresh vegetables, 6 kinds in all, quite a blessing to us. We visited Robert HOLSCLAW and family in their pretty new home. ------------------------------------------------------ CEDAR GROVE NEWS- OCTOBER 9, 1959 Mrs. Ora BOLTON of Okolona is spending the week with Mr. and Mrs. Jack GRANT while there she and Mr. and Mrs. GRANT visited Mrs. May GREENWELL who was scalded last week. Mrs. GREENWELL is improving. Mr. and Mrs. Buck CLOSE of Victory spent a couple of days last week with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin YOUNG. We want to express our sympathy to Mr. Raymond COX who lost his sister, Mrs. Lydia MURPHY of Simpsonville, last week. Supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. John LANE Saturday night were Mr. LANE's sisters, Mrs. Mary HENSLEY and Rev. and Mrs. Matthew COLVIN of Louisville. Mrs. Geneva RIGGS and Mrs. Deloris GREEN spent one afternoon last week with their aunt, Mrs. Beulah VINCENT. Mr. Joe CARRICO who has been on the critical list for some time is improving. Ronnie MEREDITH, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oral MEREDITH has left for the Air Force and is stationed in Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert VINCENT attended the dedication at Hill Tip Baptist Church at Vine Grove Sunday. Mr. VINCENT's cousin is pastor there. They had a big day with plenty to eat. Mrs. Mae VINCENT went a long and she is spending a few weeks there. I forgot last week to say congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Norman HINES over the arrival of a new baby boy. Mr. John SHAW had a heart attack while visiting his daughter, Mrs. Omer ROBY at Jeffersontown and was taken to a Louisville hospital and is resting very well at this writing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ BARDSTOWN JCT. NOTES-OCTOBER 9, 1959 The many friends of Dr. Geo. A. JONES and family were distressed to know of the tornado that went through Beaufort, S. C. where they are located. Damaged every home there, but not anyone hurt at Beaufort. Mrs. Lee WATKINS is at St. Joseph's Infirmary for a check-up. Mrs. W. C. CRIGLER is still at St. Joseph's but is improving at this time. Mrs. Dave THOMPSON's mother, Mrs. DuAnna STILLWELL underwent a major operation at St. Joseph Infirmary and is doing nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shouse and little son of Taylorsville visited their grandmother, Mrs. Sudie MAGRUDER and family. Miss Joan MAGRUDER visited her grandmother and MAGRUDER family. Mrs. Lou HOAGLAND is visiting her son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. HOAGLAND. Mrs. John OWEN is at the Baptist Hospital and is doing very nicely.
