He was a resident of Elk Creek, a native of Spencer County, a member, deacon and former treasurer of Elk Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Chatman served as a magistrate on the Spencer County Fiscal Court for 28 years and served on the Spencer County Federal Soil Association Committee. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a farmer. Survivors include one son, Fred Chatman, Jr. of Elk Creek; two daughters, Betty Sue Mahaffey of Decatur, Illlinois and Martine McKinney of Elk Creek; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 27, at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home, Taylorsville, with Rev. Devin Hudson officiating. Interment was in Highland Memory kGardens, Mt. Washington. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
