Obituaries appeart to be from local newspapers in LeSueur County, Minnesota area. DEATH SUMMONS WAR VETERAN Nelson Goldsmith Died at His Home in Cleveland Wednesday Evening. Nelson Goldsmith, a well known resident of Cleveland and a veteran of the Civil war, died at his home in that village early Wednesday evening after an illnes of only five days. On Saturday last Mr. Goldsmith was taken suddenly ill and suffered a severe hemorrhage of the stomach. After the first attack he rallied somewhat, but the improvement in his condition was only temporary and it soon became evident that there was little hope for recovery. Early in the week he began sinking rapidly, and at 8 o'clock Wednesday night he breathed his last. Mr. Goldsmith was born in Bullet county, Kentucky, April 11, 1844, and was nearly 63 years of age. He grew to manhood in his native state and on the opening of the war of the rebellion enlisted in the Fourth Kentucky cavalry. As a trooper in its ranks he saw much hard service and sharp fighting, following the life of a soldier for the better part of two years and until he was disabled. When his physical condition became such that he could no longer remain in the service he was discharged for disability and in May, 1864, he came to Minnesota. On his arrival in this state he settled at Cleveland and had since made his home in that village. The deceased was an upright and honorable man, and one who enjoyed the confidence and respect of his fellow townsmen. He was a member of A. K. Skaro Post, G. A. R. of this city, and always took a deep interest in its affairs. Mr. Goldsmith is survived by a sorrowing widow, four sons and a daughter. The latter are: Ralph Goldsmith Ladysmith, Wis.; Elmer, Melville and Henry Goldsmith and Mrs. Charles Cheadle, all of Clveland. His funeral will be held from the family home at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. VOL XII Death of Pioneer and War Veteran On Wednesday evening of last week at his home in the village of Cleveland, occurred the death of Nelson Goldsmith, after an illness of five days. A few days before his death Mr. Goldsmith was taken suddenly ill and suffered a severe hemorrahage of the stomach and continued to grow worse until about 8 o'clock Wednesday night, when he breathed his last. Deceased was born in Kentucky sixty-three years ago, and grew to manhood in that state. When the war of the rebellion broke out he enlisted and served about two years and until he was disabled. In May, 1864, he was discharged owing to disability and came to Minnesota, and settled at Cleveland where he lived up to the time of his death. He was a genial, whole-souled man, possessing those qualities of head and heart which endeared him to a large circle of friends and acquaintances. He was a member of A. K. Skaro Post, G. A. R. of St. Peter, in which he took an active part. He is survived by a widow and the following children: Ralph, of Ladysmith, Wis., Melville, Elmer, Henry and Mrs. Charles Cheadle, all of Cleveland. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the house and interment made in Savadge Lake Cemetery. The LEADER extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
