McFARLAND Passes Away Suddenly At Home of a Friend in Illinois Mt. Washington - Last Thursday during the storm, W. H. McFarland received a telephone message, telling of the death of his brother, John H. McFarland at Herrin, Ill. For more than a year his family had known that his heart was not in good condition, but the end came as a shock. After spending a week here, he had been back at his work just two weeks when his body was brought home. His Nephews, Grigsby McFarland and Vernon Emerson left immediately after the word came and arrived home about 3 AM Saturday with the body. The funeral was held at the Methodist Church at 2 PM by his pastor, Rev. B. F. Atkinson assisted by a former pastor, Rev. D. R. Peak and Rev. W. E. Pound, pastor of Waterford Baptist Church and a friend of the family. One of the largest crowds ever assembled here came to pay their respects to his memory. From Kansas City, Herrin, Louisville, Bardstown, Shepherdsville, Jeffersontown, Lebanon Junction and other towns, friends came. He is survived by his brother, three sisters, Mrs. W. E.. Kaye of Louisville, Mrs. S. M. . Harris and Mrs. L.C. Harris, several nieces and nephews and numberless friends. A true friend, loyal to his home, his home town and boyhood memories. Even though for several years his business was in other states, the new friends never crowded out the old ones. For a number of years he was salesman for the National Casket Co. with his headquarters at Kansas City, but the last several years he traveled for a company in Chicago, working out of Herrin, Ill. He died at the home of Al Storm one of his customers and friends. He was a Methodist, Republican and a Mason, true and sincere in every way. His friendly smile, cheery voice and happy greeting will come to us no more but his memory will ever by cherished in our hearts. (Sorry there is no date on this news clipping.) Second news clipping about death of J. H. McFarland: BELOVED BULLITT CO. CITIZEN Goes To His Reward On last Thursday night when the message reached the family and friends of John H. McFarland that he had died suddenly at the Storme Funeral Home at Herrin, Ill., they were shocked beyond words. Always the picture of health and so jovial no one would think of him and death together. He spent a few days at home about three weeks ago and his loved ones noticed that he was not quite himself but attributed it to the extremely warm weather. We have never known any one that loved their family, their home, their hometown, their country and their friends as did John McFarland. And he in turn was greatly beloved, no one had more warm true friends than he. He was born and grew up at Mt. Washington, was 59 years old, was in business at Lebanon Junction and BArdstown for several years before becoming a casket salesman, he was a very valued salesman of the Rex Art Casket Co., of Kansas City, Kan., at the time of his death, with his headquarters at the Lymar Hotel, Herrin, Ill. He often spent his evenings at the Storme home when in Herrin and had gone there for a social visit, when he became ill and died at 9 PM. He united with the M.E. church South under the pastorate of Rev. D. r. Peak in 1916. He was a member of the Masonic Order. His funeral was conducted at the M.E. Church Sunday at 2 PM by his pastor Rev. E. F. Atkinson, assisted by a former pastor Rev. D. R. Peak and Rev. W. E. Pound a close personal friend and pastor of the Waterford Baptist Church. Each speaking of the many noble virtues he possessed. The funeral was in charge of Messrs. Storme and Funeral Directors and special friends of Herrin, Ill., who with their wives journeyed here to perform the last rites for one they loved. The large crowd of sorrowing friends and many floral offerings were beautiful tributes to his memory. Interment in Mt. Washington Cemetery. He is survived by one brother, W. H. McFarland, Funeral Director of Mt. Washington, three sisters Mrs. Edward Kaye of Louisville, Mrs. Stuyler Harris and Mrs. Leo Harris of Mt. Washington. Five nieces and three nephews. (no date)
