Washington (written beside clipping 4/12/1937) A shadow of gloom was cast over our town last Monday evening when the news reached here of the tragic death of Mr. C. A. PORTER, Poroprietor of the Cclone Store and John Franklin SMITH one of his employee's were instantly killed when their small V-8 truck left the highway and crashed into a telephone pole on the Bardstown Raod near River View there were no witnesses to the accident and only suppositiions as to the cause. Mr. PORTER was one of the best business mena of our community and leaving off business he was an all around good man devoted to his family. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Marion McGEE PORTER, two sons, M. R. and Wm. Franklin, one daughter Mrs. Paul HORNER of Simpsonville, his mother Mrs. Fannie PORTER, three brothers, Tom, Lucian and Walter all of Jefferson County, 3 sisters Mrs. Hubert WIGGINTON, Mrs. Aileen SMITH, Miss Georgia PORTER and numerous other relatives and a host of friends. His funeral service was held on following Thursday from M. E. Church, Rev. S. J. HENINGER of Columbia Ky conducted this solemn service assisted by Bro. DICKEY our pastor and Rev. D. R. PEAK of the city. The Masonic Order had a service at the grave conducted by S. M. HARRIS, after this his remains were said to rest in the home cemetery here. John Franklin SMITH, age 19 was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Fred SMITH, a young man just starting out to make a place in life of his own. A fine boy of good character and habits with promise of acheivements worth while an do fulfilling the hopes of his parents who were justly pround of him. His funeral was held at 2 o'clock Wednesday and burial in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Another Article reguarding this accident Rites set for 2 killed in crash in Bullitt County Mt. Washington, KY April 13 1937, Funeral services were arranged today for Clarence A. PORTER 51, general store proprietor here, and Franklin SMITH 19 a clerk, who were killed instantly last night when PORTER's automobile left the Jackson Highway a mile south of Salt River Bridge and struck a pole Marks on the road indicated the motor was out of control on the wrong side of the road before it went over an embankment. The accident occurred about 730 pm Funeral services for SMITH will be held at 2pm tomoorow. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruth SMITH, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred SMITH. Mr. PORTER is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marion MCGEE PORTER, 2 sons, Marvin R. and William F., a daughter mrs. Paul HOENER, Simpsonville, his mother, Mrs. Fannie PORTER, 3 brothers Tom, Lucian and Walter PORTER, 3 sisters Mrs. Hubert WIGGINTON, Mrs. Sam SMITH, and Miss Georgia PORTER.Funeral services for Mr. PORTER will be held at 2 pm Thrusday at the Mt. Washington Methodist church, with burial in the Mt. Washington Cemetery.
