Washington, Ky., - Frank Carrithers Porter fell asleep August 7, at 3:30 P.M. For more than a year he had been in failing health, but only about two weeks ago his condition became serious enough to cause his family to feel there was any decided change for the worse, and he seemed to rally again until last Friday when he showed a bodily weakness more severe than was noticeable before, but on Saturday seemed stronger. Sunday, he again weakened and from then gradually failed until death came. He was unable to withstand much suffering, owing to a weak heart. Mr. Porter was a splendid man with many friends; his was a splendid character, strong, steady and reliable; one of the best of neighbors, a devoted father and loving, faithful husband. Few homes can be found as congenial and loving as theirs.. Sons and daughters always giving their love and service to these parents, who were just as unselfish in their devotion to their children. He leaves a sad and darkened home that only time and God's mercy can lighten, and we know that when the shock of his going away is softened, they will all feel the Saviour's protecting care, and be able to leave everything to Him. Mr. Porter would have been 69 the 18th of this month. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Fannie Porter, four sons, Tom, Lucian, Clarence and Walter; three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Wigginton, Mrs. Aileen Smith and Miss Georgia Porter; 14 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Sallie Boston and a number of other relatives. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church, Wednesday at 2 p.m. followed by interment in the local cemetery with Masonic honors. (The year was 1923)
