(written beside article Nov 53) Dr. William M. RUSH 82, a physician who began his practice back in horse and buggy days, died today at his home on Bardstown Road in Fern Creek. All but one of his year of practice were spent in his home community there, where for a long period he took a leading apart in movements for civic improvement. He was a former president of the Fern Creek Commericial Club and in that capacity and as an individual worked for better schools and roads, street lights, fire protection, and other services. When a bank failed during the depression of the 1930's Dr. RUSH helped reorganize it and became its president. Following graduation from the old Hospital College of Medicine here, Dr. RUSH practiced for a year in Louisville before moving his office to Fern Creek. He at first walked to visit his patients but later bought a horse and buggy from a farmer friend for $45. Roads were bad in those days, and at times he could reach the homes of patients only on horseback. Dr. RUSH was a teacher before entering medical school. His early life was spent as a farm boy, with schooling sandwiched in during the fall and winter. He was the oldest elder of the Pennsylvania Run Presbyterian Church. He was a widower and had no children. The physician is survived by two brothers, D. C. RUSH, and E. N. RUSH Sr. and a sister Mrs. Mary FRANKLIN. The body is at the McAFEE Funeral HOme, Buechel.
