He was a native of Jefferson County, a Navy veteran of the Korean War, a former suprvisor for the old L&N Railroad in Louisville. He was a member and active chaplain for the VFW Post 8293 in Lebanon Junction. He was also a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Lebanon Junction. He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Ann Rice; and one daughter, Mimi Crowe of Lebanon Junction, one son, James Michael Shepherd of De Ridder, La.; two sisters, Marcella Brian of Lebanon Junction and Valine Shepherd of Shepherdsville; two brothers, Melvin L. "Sonny" Shepherd of Lebanon Junction and William E. "Buddy" Shepherd of Louisville; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 3, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Lebanon Junction with the Rev. William E. Miller officiating. Burial will be at Lebanon Junction City Cemetery. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m. on Monday at Kappel Funeral HOme in Lebanon Junction City Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions for masses.
