Aug. 1947 Dr. L.S. Settles Dies; Mt. Washington Doctor for Forty Years Another of Kentucky's county doctors was called to his reward this week when Dr. Lloyd S. Settles was claimed by death. The Mt. Washington physician passed away at his home Monday evening at 5:30. He was 87 years old and had continued to practice medicine until only a few weeks ago, when he suffered a fall, breaking a hip, and spent two weeks in the hospital. Doctor Settles was a native of Nelson County. He had served the Bullitt County as a general practitioner since 1908. During the last World War, though growing frail and feeble, he held on during the critical scarcity of physicians, giving his people the advantages of his medical skill at a time when the need was most pronounced. He is survived by a foster daughter, Miss Louise Sanders, a sister, Mrs. Charles Hamilton, Mr. Washington; five brothers, E.R. and R. L. Settles, Louisville; W.R. and B.H. Settles, Big Springs, Texas; and James L. Settles, TerreHaute, In., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were set for Thursday afternoon at the Mt. Washington Baptist Church, followed by services at the Mt. Washington Cemetery, conducted by the Salt River Lodge of Masons.
