Bowman abt. 1810-1848 Will Book D Page 104 In the name of God, Amen, I Jacob W Bowman of Bullitt Co, Ky- make this my last will and Testament. I commend my Soul to God, its auther(sic), and my body to its mother Earth, to be decently buried in a christian like manner - I give and divise to my dear wife Mary Jane Bowman all my household and kitchen furniture & ware of every description , and the looms & wheels- and Poultry of every kind - and also my riding sorrrel Rudolph mare and colt, in fee forever - and in assigning dower in the slaves to my wife I direct that she have choice of the servants to the extent in value of her legal Dower - and also in setting apart her part of the stock & researved by law to widows she is to have choice of that part of same reserved and set apart to her by law as widow. All the rest of my personal Estate, stock & crops of every kind and debts due me, I wish my Exors to dispose of for the purpose of paying my debts as speedily as practicable - and should this not prove sufficient to pay them, I direct the hires of the negroes & rents of the lands be applied for that purpose so as to prevent, if possible the sale of any slave or land - Should I die during the growing of any crop on the farm - I wish my servants on the farm to be directed by my Exors under the control of the overseer to mature the crop fully and have the same prepared and fitted for sale for the purpose of paying debts aforesaid - The family grave yard at my home place, to the extent of one half acre at least, I direct to be put under good improvement and so kept at all times for a Family burial Ground - the title thereof never to pass to any stranger and never to be sold out of the family - I purchased a tract of land in Bullitt County as Smalls property under a decree of Bullitt Circuit Couart- Small mortgaged this land afterwards with other Estate to pay me other debts and to pay other persons, now I direct that my Exors may, on the payment by Small, of first the purchase money, and then the balance named in the mortgage in full - release this land without warranty on my part - but this direction is not to hinder or delay me or my representative from using all means in law, at any time, to have the possession of the land under my purchase, or the other sum secured by mortgage - But is directory to my Exors to release the same if Small shall promptly pay me or my Exors the debts - and this money when collected belongs to and will be divided to the old firm of Jacob W. Bowman & Co. one third to me - one third to George W. Bowman - & the other third to the heirs of my Father - I being one - I received some slaves, servants - from father in law Abraham Field after our marriage - I direct that in case I die leaving a child or children- and then such child shall die, an infant, unmarried and withoout issue, that said slaves, which I received from A Field and their issue, and also the one I purchased of R P Simmons Estate shall go to my wife Mary Jane Bowman - If any bond given by me for lands sold shall be outstanding at the time of my death - I direct that my Exors as aforesaid or such them as may qualify or survivor of them shall make a deed to the purchaser of such land, on the payment of the purchase money, agreeably to the terms of such bond & sale- Lastly I constitute and appoint my friends Abraham Field and Richard H Field Executors of this my last will and Testament - In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 25 day of April 1848 Acknowledged before us - Interlined before signed J.W.
