(signed) Hugh (X) BROWN In th presence of William SPENCER James BOLTON Recorded 3 July 1815 Bullitt Co. KY Court Hugh BROWN m. Mrs. Mary CANNON 19 Sep 1808 in Shelby Co. KY Betsy BROWN m. Frederic CLEVIDENCE 31 Aug 1801 in Bullitt Co. KY James BOLTON had married Lucy SPENCER 6 Jul 1805 in Bullitt Co. Its odd - the 1810 census shows James living alone in Bullitt Co. with a little boy under 10. Where’s Lucy? I *suspect* that this James BOLTON might be the James who is shown on the Montgomery Co. MD census in 1800. It is simply a guess but think it could be possible because: He is in a neighborhood in MD that feeds Bullitt Co. strongly - there are Duvalls, Ricketts, Allisons and others that have either already gone or will be going to Bullitt Co. If John B. BOLTON is related to James (which seems likely) it makes sense that when he is a teenager and is bound out he is given to David ALLISON - David’s family owned land very close to BOLTONS in Montgomery Co. The 1810 census of Bullitt shows James BOLTON, David ALLISON and Enoch ALLISON on p. 173 of Bullitt Co. When John B. BOLTON marries for the 3rd time in Bullitt Co. he gives his birthplace as Montgomery Co. MD. If this is the same James BOLTON found on the 1800 in MD he was shown there with a wife and two small boys. It would appear that he lost the wife and maybe a small son before coming to Bullitt Co. (*IF* it is the same man.) There is only one BOLTON boy that I know of in the Bullitt area that would fit the age of the boy in James BOLTON'S household on the 1810 and that is John B. . It appears by the 1850 that (widow) Lucy (Spencer) BOLTON did have some boys around her but none seem old enough to have been counted on the 1810 census. I am not a researcher of the family - simply have observed the above possibilities and it could be that you Bolton researchers know something that makes it impossible to connect to James but I would think the *possibility* is strong that John B. is either his son by an earlier wife or a little brother.
