My cousin Glenda transcribed this from the original, she will be mailing me a copy. This will was found by a Bullitt County Historian while in Frankfort. I Joseph Crenshaw of the county of Hanover and parish of St. Paul being of sound mind memory and health, which I thank God for, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament. That is to say, I recommend and give my soul to the almighty God that first gave it to me and my body to the Earth after my Death to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner by my Executors hereafter mentioned, not doubting but of the general resurection to receive the same again by the same divine power that gave it to me. And touching my worldly goods which it has pleased God to _____ me with in this life, give and dispose of in manner and form following after all my just debts are paid. Imprimis. I lend unto my son James for and during his natural life one negroe man named Cesar, one negroe woman named Phebe and her future increase and also one negroe child named Suckey and her increase and at this death to be equally divided between the six children my son James has now living, names as follows, Joel Crenshaw, Overton Crenshaw, Cosby Crenshaw, Nelson Crenshaw, Blueford Crenshaw, and Patsy Crenshaw to those and their heirs forever. _____ I give to the children of my son William Crensahw (__) Meredeth Crenshaw, Patsy Crenshaw, and Nancy Crenshaw one hundred pounds current money to be laid out in land or negroes or any other thing at the discretion of my Executors and to be paid to them when either come to the age of twenty one years or marrys which hundred pounds to be equally divided among the three children. _____ I give to my son Charles Crenshaw four hundred and fifty acres of land by the lines as they now stand to him and his heirs lawfully ____ his body forever provided he should have such heirs if not his widow of such left shall have the priviledge of the land during her being his widow. The three hundred acres of land the lower part joining David Crenshaw laid off by Joseph Goodman. I desire that my son Charles may have the priviledge of having for three hundred pounds if he should not choose to take it at that it is my desire this land should be set up to the highest bidder among my four children James, Charles, Frances and Sarah. It is also my desire that the house on plantation that I now live on should be included in the above ______ four hundred and fifty acres. Also I lend to my said son Charles ______ negores (___) Isacc, Nan and Hannah, with all their increases and at the death the negroes and their increase as I so lent my son I give it to be equally divided amongst his children in case he should _____ any lawfully begotten of his body if otherwise. It is my desire that his widow should ______ them quietly so long as she remains his widow and at her death or widowhood that estate and increase to be equally divided among my son James Crenshaw, Frances Collier, and Sarah Priddy's children. it is also my desire that my _____ son Charles should have my Smith's tools him and his heirs forever. _____ I lend unto daughter Frances Collier sixty five pounds which I paid for my man named Gilbert and one negro woman named Milley and all the increase in lieu of land. I likewise lend unto my said daughter Frances Collier the full consideration money for which her husband Thomas Collier by my _____ and consent ____ old negroe named Cate which ____ negro I lent and delivered into the _____ of my said daughter Frances Collier and also one negroe (Bob) I likewise lend my said daughter forty pounds or a negro of the age of about ten years for and during the life of my said daughter and at her death I leave it equally to be divided between all the children of my ____________ forever. ____ I lend unto my daughter Sarah Priddy two negroes (___) _____ and David and all the increase in lieu of land and also I lend unto my said daughter Sarah Priddy two negroes (Floid and Milley) and their increase and likewise I lend my said daughter forty pounds or a negro of the age of about ten years for and during the life of my said daughter and her husband John Priddy and at ____ death I leave that estate to be equally divided between all the children of my said daughter Priddy and her present husband to them and the heirs forever. All the remains of my estate,let it consist in whatsoever it may I lend to be equally divided between my four children James Crenshaw, Charles Crenshaw, Frances Collier, and Sarah Priddy for and during their natural lives and at their deaths and the death of John Priddy all the said estate so lent I desire should be equally divided between all the children of the said James, Charles, Frances Collier, Sarah Priddy and their heirs forever. Lastly I do appoint my son Charles Crenshaw and my son in law John Priddy executors of this my last will and testament and do hereby revoke all and every other will or wills by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have here fixed my hand and seal this 6th day of June 1789. This last will and testament of Joseph Crenshaw deceased was offered to proff by Charles Crensahw as executor therein named and was proved by the oath of John Crenshaw a witness thereto and at a court continued ____ for the said county on Monday the 7th day of the same month and year the said will was further ____ by the oath of Jeremiah Glenn another witness thereto and also by the oath of said Executor and is ordered to be recorded.
