I, Clifton Hall of the County of Bullitt and state of Kentucky, being somewhat afflicted of body but of sound mind and disposing memory, and knowing the certianty of death, and uncertianty of the time thereof, do think proper to make, ordain, and establish this my last will and testament, to dispose of my property in the manner and form following, Towit. Item 1st, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Abagail one hundred dollars to be paid to her immediately after my decease, if there should be that amount in the house at my decease, and if not, as soon thereafter as it can possibly be collected--also one bay mare called and known by the name Jin, and my saddle and bridle--also one cow and calf, whichever of my stock she shall make choice of, also all my beds and beddingwhich shall not be herein and hereafter otherwise disposed of, also one desk, one table, one cupboard and cupboard furniture, so much as she shall think proper to keep, and one half dozen of chairs: also so much kitchen furniture as she shall think proper to keep. Item 2nd. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Newkirk one hundred dollars in current money of the United States. Item 3rd. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sally Scott one hundred dollars current money of the United States. Item 4th. I give and bequeath unto my son Charles Hall one hundred dollars current money of the United States. Item 5th I give and bequeath unto my daughter Celia Mothershead fifty dollars current money of the United States. The four last bequests of money to my above mentioned daughters and son, is intended to put them on an equality with my sons John Hall and David Hall. Item 6th I give and bequeath unto my son Nathan Hall one horse, that is to say, I will name and designate the horses now on my farm which are now and of right ought to be the property of my said son Nathan, that is, one sorrel horse known by the name Whalebone, one sorrel mare known by the name of Hamiltonian and her two colts, one being two years old, and the other one year old this present spring, and I do hereby acknowledge that I have no claim to, nor on, either of the above mentioned four horse beats (?): also two cows and calves, one sheep in addition to the stock of sheep now on my farm, one bed and furniture, bedstead. Item 7th. I will designate by name the horses which my son Lewis Hall has on the farm, whereon I am now living, that is one chestnut sorrel mare known by the name of Doll, one sorrel mare with a white face which was given to his wife by her father known by the name of Childers, one sorrel colt two years old this spring called Young Post boy: also I give and bequeath unto my said son Lewis Hall two cows and calves, one bed and furniture, bedstead, and fifteen sheep. Item 8th. It is my will and desire that whatever stock of hogs I shall depart this life ceased of , shall be equally divided between my two sons Nathan Hall and Lewis Hall: and also it is my will that at my decease, whatever quantity of corn, wheat rye stouts, and whatever quantity of bacon or pork or both and lard, soap, and tallow there shall be on the farm shall belong, and be for the support of the families of my said two sons Nathan and Lewis Hall--and should there be a surplus it shall belong exclusively unto them to be by them disposed of in any manner that they should think proper, and the benefits arising therefrom to be equally divided between them the said Nathan and Lewis Hall. Item 9th. It is my will and desire that at my decease my black man slave named Godfrey, but generally known by the name of Dock, shall be liberated and made a freeman by paying to my beloved wife Abagail the sum of twenty five dollars annually during her life. Item 10th It is my will and desire that so soon as possible after my decease, that all the just debts which I shall be owing, at my decease shall be paid. Item 11th. It is likewise my will and desire that after my decease that all the property which I shall depart this life ceased of. not heretofore disposing of, together with all monies, bonds, and debts due me at my decease, shall be equally divided between my six children, herein and thereafter named, that is Elizabeth Newkirk, Sally Scott, John Hall, Charles Hall, David Hall, and Celia Mothershead. Item 12th, I do hereby nominate appoint and authorize my three sons John Hall, Charles Hall, and David Hall Executors (with Meridith Cosby as an assistant) to this my last will and testament. Item 13th I do now ordain and declare this to be my last will and testament, revoking all other ones whatsoever. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eleventh day of April one Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty Nine.
