KY Will Book B p. 179 17 Sep 1827 On the motion of BENJAMIN HENSON Ordered that ELEMELICK SWEARENGEN, GUY PHELPS, JOHN ANDERSON and ELISHA JAMES or any three of them being first sworn be and they are hereby appointed Commissioners to allot to MRS. VERLINDA HENSON, wife of said HENSON her Dower in the Estate of GRIFFIN SIMMONS dec’d and also to value the remaining slaves of said decedents Estate and make report thereof to the Court. Schedule of property now in possession of BENJAMIN HENSON the late property of GRIFFIN SIMMONS Deceased taken and appraised by us agreeably to an order of the Bullitt County Court 22 Sep 1827: One negro woman named HANNAH aged 37 years $180.00 One negro boy named SYE aged 12 years $250.00 One negro boy named CHARLES aged 10 years $200.00 One negro boy named WILL aged 9 years 140.00 One negro boy named ABRAM aged 7 years $130.00 One negro boy named BOB aged 5 years 100.00 One negro girl named EASTER aged 2 years 80.00 Total: $1080.00 minus 1/3 of the amount: 360.00 We the subscribers allot to Mrs. VERLINDER HENSON one negro boy SYE and one Negro Woman HANNAH Given under our hands this 22 Sep 1827 ELEM’K SWEARENGEN GUY PHELPS JOHN ANDERSON Recorded 17 March 1828 Bullitt Co. KY Court Bullitt Co. Will Book C p. 58 In the name of God Amen I BENJAMIN HENSON of Bullitt County in the State of Kentucky do make ordain and declare this instrument to be my last will and testament. Imprimis - all my just debts are to be paid as soon as circumstance will permit. To my dearly beloved wife VERLINDER HENSON I give and bequeath my farm lying in the south side of Salt River containing Two hundred acres of which one hundred and fifty formerly belonged to SAMUEL SIMMONS and fifty acres belonged to HUMPHREY SIMMONS Sr. I also do my moiety of an undivided tract of land containing three hundred acres lying and being in Harrison County being the land my father died possessed of, I give the use an profits and benefits to her forever. I also do my personal estate of every sort and kind to be used and disposed of as she shall think proper - I give and bequeath the use of my whole estate both real and personal forever - to used and disposed of to her use and proffit as she shall or may think proper. I constitute and appoint my wife VERLINDER HENSON my Executrix and BRITTAIN WHITE my Executor of this my last will, revoking and making void all former wills by me made heretofore and in Compliance with this my last will to be proceeded in agreeable to the requisitions herein contained I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this 13 Dec 1831. (signed) BENJAMIN HENSON In the presence of J. PEACOCK and J. D. S. PEACOCK Recorded 11 March 1839 Bullitt Co. KY Court Verlinder WILLIAMS m. Griffin SIMMONS 15 Jan 1801 in Jefferson Co. KY. He apparantly didn't last long because she then married Benjamin HENSON/HINSON 19 Jan 1807 or 1809 (have seen it both ways in published accounts and never seen the original).
