Will Book A p. 379 In the name of God Amen, I Richard JAMES of the County of Bullitt and State of Kentucky being low in health and much indisposed in Body but of sound mind, Memory and understanding do make and ordain this my Last will and Testament in the manner and form that is to say after all my just debts and funeral Expenses is Justly and honestly paid and with respect to my property that God has Blest me with I dispose of in the following manner (Towit) I give and beqeath to my Loving wife Elizabeth JAMES all my property Both real and personal of every nature and Kind During her natural life or widowhood but in case she should marry she in that case is to take one third of all the property and the remaining two thirds to be equally divided amongst all my children then living namely Anne STALLINGS, Richard JAMES, Elizabeth JAMES, Susan JAMES, John JAMES, harriett JAMES and in Case she should remain a widdow during her life she is to have full possession of all the Estate and at her death the property both real and personal is to be Equally divided amongst my children before named or as many of them should be living at the time and should my wife think proper to dispose of my ---- property for the use of schooling the children or the use of the family she is at Liberty so to do hereby I nominate and appoint my wife Elizabeth Executrix and Samuel STALLINGS and Richard JAMES and Benjamin BRASHEAR all three of Bullitt County and State of Kentucky Executors of this my last will and testament hereby Revoking all former wills by me made in Writing Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this fourteenth day of April 1821 Signed, Sealed and published as is declared by the testator and for this my last will and testament set (?) in our presents who is his presents and at his request have signed our names as witnesses hereto. Will Book D p. 324 18 March 1850 On the motion of NANCY JAMES widow of JULIUS C. JAMES deceased who wishes dower assigned her in the slaves of the Estate of her deceased husband. Ordered that JAMES COMBS, ALFRED J. ROBARDS, CHARLES LEE and JOHN S. SIMMONS or any three of whom being first sworn be and they are hereby appointed Commissioners to assign her dower in the slaves of said decedents estate and report to Court. We the undersigned commissioners appointed by the Bullitt County Court to assign NANCY JAMES dower in the salves of her dec’d husbands Estate met pursuant to the within Order on the premises on the 1st day of March 1851 and there was shown to us by the admor. JOS. P. SIMMONS four slaves belonging to said Estate Towit: ANDERSON valued at $300, CAROLINE valued $300, WILLIAM valued at $400, ANN valued $325. Total $1325 one third of total value $441 2/3 and we assigned her ANDERSON and CAROLINE as dower slaves and she will owe the heirs $158.33 1/3. Given under our hands. JAMES COMBS JNO S. SIMMONS A. J. ROBARDS, Commissioners Recorded 17 March 1851 Bullitt Co. KY Court Julius JAMES and Nancy SIMMONS were married “agreeably to the forms and Customs of the methodist church” on 18 Dec 1828.
