Book A p. 191. I decided not to try to transcribe it word for word. That section of the film is difficult and the handwriting is worse than usual as well but I will post an abstracted form - I think I was able to get most of the crucial details and read them correctly. A copy of the original from the courthouse might be much more readable than the film version I had should someone want it. In parts of this will he looks like Laurence and other parts like Lawrence so I can’t give a definative answer on his first name (if there was one). Bullitt Co. Will Book A p. 259 In the name of god amen, I Laurence ROBY of Bullitt County, Citizen of KY being weak in body but possessing fully all the powers of mind... 1. It is my will and desire that all my just debts be punctually paid out of my estate by my Executors hereafter named. 2. I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Catherine ROBY the house and plantation Wheron I now live and various personal property 3. To son Samuel one hundred dollars when he arrives at lawful age - also my son Otho (I think) ROBY one hundred dollars when he shall arrive at lawful age - also my son Lawrence ROBY seventy five dollars out of my estate. 4. Sons William Owen, Reason and John each to get one hundred dollars which they now hold in their own hands 5. daughter Polley GREENWELL to get ninety dollars, daughters Patsy, Catherine, Susanna, and Hannah ROBY each to get ninety five dollars and also my daughter Elizabeth WILHOIT to receive ten shillings to be paid out of my estate after my decease. 6. It is my will and desire that after my death all my estate and property be distribute both real and personal 7. I appoint my beloved friend Rodolphus ROBY my executor to this my last will and testament. Therefore to mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally first of all, I give and command my soul unto the hands of the Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in Decent Christian Burial at the Discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection. I shall receive the same again by the Mighty Power of God and as touching such worldly Estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me in this life. I give, devise, and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. First, I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved wife Elizabeth during her widowhood all the land I now possess. I also give to the said Elizabeth my riding mare known by the name of Sall, and the sidesaddle she now has in her possession, over and above her things of my estate. I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved son Arthur John all the land I now possess at the decease or marriage of her, my said wife Elizabeth. I likewise give and bequeath to my dearly beloved son Lawrence my gun and my saddle. I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Ann one cow and yearling, and the remaining part of my estate, exclusive of my wife's third.I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved children, viz: Ann, Lawrence, Elizabeth, and Arthur John to be equally divided among them, the four children aforesaid. I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved son Owin one shilling sterling, I like wise give and bequeath to my dearly beloved daughter, Esther COPHER one shilling sterling. I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved daughter Mary SHAIN one shilling sterling. I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved son William one shilling sterling. I likewise Constitute,make, and Ordain my Dearly Beloved wife Elizabeth my sole Executor of this my last will and testament and I hereby utterly disallow, ___, and disannull all and every other testament, wills, legacies, and bequests by me in any way willed and bequeathed. Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written. Signed, sealed, published, pronounced and declared by the said William ROBY as his last will and testament in the presence of us the subscribers. William ROBY, son of John James RUPELL William ROBY, son of William James GRIFFIN Thomas OWIN Annexed to us foregoing Will was thus written to wit: Charles County the 25th day of March 1775, there came Elizabeth ROBY and made oath on the holy angels of Almighty God that the within instrument of writing is the True and Whole testament of William ROBY late of Charles County deceased that hath come to her hands of possession, and that she doth not know of any other. Then came James RUPELL James GRIFFIN and Thomas OWIN three of the subscribing witnesses to the within last will aND testament of William ROBY, son of John, late of Charles County deceased, and ___made oath on the Holy Angels of Almighty God that they heard him publish , pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and testament, that at the time of his so doing, he was to the best of their apprehensions of sound and disposing mind, memory, and understanding, and that they respectfully subscribed their names as witnesses to the said will in the presence of the testator and at his request and in the presence of each other. Certified by Dan'l JENIFER DCourt I further certifie that Elizabeth the widow, Owin ROBY the heir at law being in the backwoods was present at the time the above probate was taken, and that she did not object to the taking of the same.
