It is written twice within the will - neither look the same and I could not tell what it was. I Samuel WELSH of Bullitt County Kentucky being now of a sound mind and disposing mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will & testament in the manner following: Imprimus: After the payment of my funeral expenses & Just debts I give and bequeath to my wife Mary WELSH during her life for the purpose of her support all the property real and personal of which I may die seized and possessed of including ------- (blotted out) stock and at her death to be disposed of by will or otherwise as she may direct and order and to such persons or person as she may think proper except as is herein after excepted. Having heretofore given to my daughter Jenny HITE (who is now dead), Nancy JEWELL, wife of Smallwood JEWELL, Martha HOUSTON, wife of John HOUSTON, Betsy B----- (BENKS? BUNKS? BURK?) (now dead) and to my son William WELSH each their proportionate part of my property being such part as I had intended to give them. I do further direct my Executor or Executrix to pay to the children of my daughters Jenny HITE, to Nancy JEWELL, Martha HUSTON, the child of Betsy BENK-- and to my son William WELSH one dollar each in full of all their part of my estate after my dealth to them and their heirs forever. and lastly I appoint my wife Mary WELSH Executrix of this my last will and testament replacing (?) all others by me heretofore made. BROOKS, Joseph BROOKS Codicil dated 29 May 1817 "It is my will and desire that no security shall be required of my wife the said Mary WELSH in this will mentioned as my Executrix but that she may be permitted to take the Oath as by law required without giving such security - and further that as my executrix shall pay and satisfy all the demands against the estate of my late son James WELSH dec'd which I wish done as soon as possible. She will immediately demand and take into her possession all the books, papers and property belonging to said estate and investigate settle and administrate the same.
