KELLY DEAD At time of going to press the shocking news had been received from Hadley, of the sudden death of J. L. Kelly, who was found dead in bed Wednesday morning at the home of his son-In – Law Mr. Harris, were he had gone last Monday to visit. Heart disease is supposed to have been the cause of his death. A more lengthy notice of Mr. Kelly’s death will appear in our next issue. UNCLE ALEX FINLEY DEAD News has been received here of the death of Uncle Alex Finley, who died last Sunday at Russellville, Uncle Alex use to live in our town and has many friends and acquaintances in these parts who will be sad to hear of his death. Campbell, of the Anti- Saloon Leagues, lectured at the Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon. Henry Glenn, of Calhune, has been visiting his sister Mrs. G. H. Dabbs. Misses Howard entertained at their home on Tyler Street Saturday evening. Mr. Lon Perkins of Bowling Green, is in town this week. Capt. N. T. Howard, T. W. Sweatt, Judge Guffy and W. R. Gardner left Sunday night for Frankfort. Mrs. Florence Williams, of Evansville, Ind., visited her sister Mrs. Jett W. Hines last week returning on Str. Park City Friday. Our faith old standby W. A. Hampton, of Woodbury, called in Monday to renew his subscription. Judge and Mrs. E. P. James have returned from Montgomery, Ala., where they were visiting their son T. Frank James. G. B. Willis whose post office is Morgantown called in our office Monday and subscribed for the Republican and Louisville Herald. Mrs. J. E. Harreld and son Sank, left last Thursday for Nashville, Tenn., to attend the bedside of Mrs. Harreld’s brother, Howard Finley, who is very low with rheumatism. Mr. Jay H. Guffy wife and children Miss Earth and Master Phi left Tuesday for Ballard County where they will spend a few days visiting friends and then leave for their home in Oklahoma. Mrs. E. C. Kuykendall left Sunday for Little Rock Ark., where she will be the guest of her brother Mr. Eugene Overstreet, Capt. And Mrs. W. S. Overstreet will join Mrs. Kuykendall at Bowling Green. Mr. John L. Norris, formerly a leading stockman of our County, but now a --- of Rockland, In Warren County, called in our office Monday to renew his subscription. Uncle John was taking orders for some of the --- --- molasses that ever was brought to this market and he had no trouble in disposing of his excellent product. Miss Edna Mae Smith entertained at her home on Main Saturday evening in honor of Mr. Jeff Wood. Her gust included Miss Rose Forsyter, Kathryn Helm, Jessie Helm, Nellie Johnson, Mollie Bohannon, Thurlow Ward, Efie Wand and Anna Pearle Phelps. Messrs. Jeff Wood, Will Wand, Tom Sweatt, Columbus Klener, Rollie Keown, Harley Harreld, Prof. George B. Rush, John Moore and Justus Carson: Justus Carson won the prize. Will Ward won the “Booby”. The guest all praised Mrs. Smith in being such a delightful hostess. GRAND WORK OF THE GRAND JURY The splendid work of the last Grand Jury, assisted by the County Attorney and Common Wealth Attorney. In stamping out crime and e nforcing law and order, is to be --- --- good ----- by all. --- of Butler County. The Attorneys for the Commonwealth ask the aid and assistance of all law abiding citizens to help enforce the laws of our state and county. There will be a special effort made in the future to stamp out false swearing as that one crime is shielding and protecting the law breakers on every hand and the more oath is being disregarded, which needs special attention in this county.
