James as a candidate for the Republican nomination for Congress in this, the 3rd. Congressional District. Dr. James is a native of this, butler, county but removed to Muhlenburg county several years ago. He has served several times in the Kentucky Legislature and also in the State Senate. He was a member of the Constitutional Convention of 1890 and 1891. He was one of the Commissioners to the World’s Fair at Chicago. He served eight years as U.S. Marshal for Kentucky. He has made a faithful and competent officer in all these official stations. He is a strong man, a good campaigner and popular with the people. If he is our nominee we predict his triumphant election. In speaking of him the Louisville Herald says: - “Dr. James is one of the most prominent Republican politicians in the State, and has long been active in party affairs. He will at once enter upon an active campaign and his friends are hopeful that he will be nominated without opposition. If Dr. James is the party nominee in the Third District it is believed that he will experience little difficulty in defeating James M. Richardson of Glasgow, the Democratic nominee who is seeking re-election. Being a politician of many years experience, Dr. James knows what to put into a campaign to win and his friends are confident that he will redeem the Third congressional District to the Republican column. _______________ HARVEY LINCLN MYERS Elsewhere in this issue will be seen the announcement of Harvey Lincoln Myers, of Rochester, Ky., as a candidate for Representative in this Legislative district subject to the action of the Republican Primary to be held Nov. 6, 1906. Mr. Myers is a Republican of the old school, always on the firing line. He is always found in the fore front fighting the battles of the party. To such men as Mr. Myers, is due the success of the republican party in Butler county. The large Republican majorities, which have been rolled up at old Rochester, are largely due to his effective work for the cause Of Republicanism. If out banner is entrusted to such men as Harvey Myers it will never be found trailing in the dust of defeat. ________________ WISCONSIN IS FOR BRYAN Milwaukee, June 29 – William Jennings Bryan was strongly indorsed as the standard bearer of the Democratic party in the presidential campaign of 1908 by the Democratic state convention, which adjourned ____ ____ yesterday afternoon. ________________ It is about the limit of ordinary politeness when a gentleman gives up his seat to a lady in the street car. James. It is the consensus of opinion that he is the logical candidate; that he is the man most likely to defeat his Democratic opponent at the general election. This being the case, and this being the belief of he voters; I bow in humble reverence to their will. I place my allegiance and loyalty to the Republican party above all considerations of self.
