Column 3 PERSONAL MENTION Miss Annie Frakes of Gallatin, Tenn., is visiting the family of Mr. J. C. Flener. Dr. and Mrs. A. E. Gardener of Wichita, Kans. Are visiting Mrs. Gardener’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Kuykendall. Sr. Gardener has a large and lucrative practice in Wichita and is a highly successful practitioner. Miss Fannie Flener of Beaver Dam, and Mr. Ruby Turner of Cave Hill were guests of their aunt Mrs. Elmer Anderson, last week end. Mrs. Augusta Walker left Wednesday to visit her sister Miss Bell Walker at Bowling Green. Mrs. Alex Finley, of Paris, Tenn., and Mr. Chas E. Smith of Nashville, Tenn. Are here having been called to the bedside of their father, B. F. Smith. Mrs. W. L. Neel has returned to her home in Cincinnati, an accompanied by her talented little daughter, Laura Howard, who has been with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Forsythe for the past 6 months. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Browning and daughter, Miss Martha of Evansville, are the guest of Mrs. Browning’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cole. W. O. Smith Gone Uncle Ben Smith as he was formulary known, passed away at his home here at 5 p. m. Tuesday, June 25th. He was one of Butler County’s valued citizens. He was a leader in the Baptist Church; prominent Mason and Odd Fellow. He had been suffering some time before the end came. He lived a quiet peaceful life of usefulness and will reap a rich reward in the Great Beyond. He will be buried by the Masons and Odd Fellows at 2 P. M. Thursday; funeral services at Union Church. AT THE CHURCHES The Revs. Schanzenbacher and Davidson each visited their rural churches, finding them with a re-awakened desire for spiritual things. Church and Sabbath School interest at Sugar Grove reviving. The Re. Jas Stewart preached Saturday night at Cave Rock and occupied his Union Church pulpit here both morning and night. While our brother Stewart is very easy in his manner, his ministrations never put us to sleep. He spices his discourses, -both this time from Mathew’s Gospel. The C. E. Society rendered a good program, but away behind time at the beginning. The 1st day of July is the Sabbath. At the instance of Herbert C. Hoover, government food commissioner a Nation Wide movement a sermon will be preached at the Church on the Hill on Food Conservation. And the night service will begin early and prompt; somehow we have begun to loiter. We have more than usual interest at the mid week prayer services. Come early Thursday night. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Hawkins and children visited her parents Sunday. Mr. Louis Arnold of Oak Grove visited Singing at this place Saturday night. Mr. Raynond Smith attended services at New Midway. Singing at this place Saturday night and everybody invited to come. Mr. C. E. Drake near Rochester visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. F. DePoyster, of Graham, Ky., has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Burnie Hunt. Candidates are thick. We can’t vote for them all. Mr. Eustace Mayhugh of Morgantown was in town this week. Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Mayhugh passed through this week. Little Miss Edna May Miller is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Elmer DePoyster at Graham, Ky. Our Sunday schools at both churches are progressing nicely. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Arnold visited Mr. and Mrs. Frank Greathouse Friday. Miss Lucile Ragland of Morgantown is the guest of Miss. Gladys Gardener. Mrs. Howard Moore, of Morgantown is the guest of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Willis. Mr. Cook Downing, traveling sales man for Rogers & Siler Grocery Co., Owensboro, was in town this week. Mr. Wm. Smith has returned home. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Mayhugh, of Greenville motored over Friday and enjoyed the day fishing. Miss Georgia Marion of Lewisburg, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. Carl Richardson. Mrs. James (Capt.) Wallace, who has been very ill for a few days is up again. Miss.--- Bowles returned home Sunday afternoon, after a short visit to friends in Drakesboro. Mr. Ben Moore, of Morgantown, was in our town Saturday. Miss Forgy, daughter of Jim Forgy, Owensboro, who has been a guest for several days of Miss Mary Lee Bowles, has returned home. Miss Ina and Eva Gardener spent the weekend with friends in Central City. Mrs. Frank Thomas and little daughter, Marjorie have returned after spending several weeks in Evansville. Misses Mabel and Marjorie Smith of Greenville, are the guest of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm Trulove. We are glad that our town is becoming more and interested in education and that we are to have four years High School. Prof John Glass Niece has been selected principal and Mrs. H. E. Willis assistant for the next term. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Irvin, of Toledo, Ohio are visiting relatives and friends here and at Greenville; Mrs. Irvin will be remembered as Miss Derma Hays.
