JUDGE HAYNES has appointed EMBRY J. W. HOWARD and AMBROSE MAYHEW as supervisors of the tax list. They will begin their duties second Monday in March. The Kentucky Equal Rights Association hereby goes on record as opposed to the passage of any bill by 1918 session of the General Assembly providing for presidential suffrage or for the submission to the voters of Kentucky of a amendment unless the National Association withdraws its opposition to the state action at this time. END OF DEMOCRACY SENATOR CUMMINS of Iowa has this to say in regard to the bill introduced to give President WILSON power to fix railroad rates of eighteen months after the war closes. It is utterly impossible he added to conceive an instance wherein a power of that kind could be properly employed. It is simply another ------ constantly increasing inclination to grasp for authority and to some of us it seems like the end of democracy rather than the beginning of greater freedom. You will remember WILSON dwelt long and loud about a new freedom. He certainly did not have in mind this cruel war that is going on and at the same time allowing his democrat friends to say he was going to keep us out of war. One rat will eat four bushels of grain a year. It costs $2 or $3 a year to feed a rat on your place. Get rid of Mr. rat if you put salt on his tail. PARTY WISDOM THOMAS W. LAMONT of J. P. MORGAN and Company says, President WILSON is looked upon as having displayed great wisdom in choosing the time and manner of coming into the struggle, No doubt of it. The time was to be any time after the election of 1916, provided he kept us out of war, virus worked successfully, The man ---- any manner which would have in the least offense to voters of foreign extraction in the United States. Witness the present treatment of resident Austrians, Bulgarians etc., and the declaration that we have no quarrel with the German people. Great wisdom was party wisdom. In time of war the president of the United States is commander in chief of the army and navy. The members of his cabinet are responsible to him personally not to congress. None of them may be removed without his consent except by impeachment. Now is the time to advertise, farmer's wives having the primp fever and the price.
