S. Rives, Editor and Manager Member of Kentucky Press Association ----- in the post office at Morgantown, Butler county. Kentucky as second class mail matter. Residence phone Cumb, No 91 Farmers Advertising Representative The American Press Association Republished out of the county $1.50 per year Senator Warren G. Harding Republican candidate for President of the United States goes to the people with a clean record as a friend of the people. Throughout his career in the Ohio State legislation, and as United States Senator, his influence, his voice and his votes have ever been used in the service of the people. Senator Harding has shown by his every public act that when he is elected President of the United States he will be the representative of all the people, not of any group or groups of interests. He will be the Farmers President and the bankers; he will represent the working men and the industrial heads, the rich and the poor the mighty and the lowly. Senator Harding, the Republican candidate for the Presidency, is the same simple, plain unassuming man of the people he was when a modest Ohio publisher. Born on a farm, he worked his way through school and college by laboring in the fields, by driving teams, painting barns, setting type and teaching school. Harding the printer became Harding the publisher, a power for right and good in his community. Recognizing in Harding the type of man that makes the best representative of the people’s interests in the legislative halls, the people of Ohio twice sent him to the state legislature, then honored him as Lieutenant – Governor. In 1914 they recognized his true stature and elected him to the United States Senate. Today his party has given him the greatest honor within its power by nominating him for the Presidency, but he is still the Harding the town folks knew as printer and editor, living his simple and beautiful family life in his modest Marion home, beloved and respected, by his neighbors who were his boyhood friends. Harding is a splendid type of clean American manhood, a notable example to every American born boy of the opportunities the country offers to them all. Harding and Coolidge should receive overwhelming support at the polls next November 2nd. They represent all that is best in the party founded by Lincoln which since the Civil War has ever wisely guided the destinies of the country in days of stress when serious problems pressed for solution. Uncle Joe Austin rays: “Will some Democrat tell why he is a Democrat, and what they ever did for the country?” So say we all Republicans. Provo cleaned up our boys by one score on last Tuesday. He was reared on a farm and attended the public schools in which he – applied himself until he was 15 years of age at which time he opened his public career as a rural school teacher. ---------- 29th Student and teacher from that date until he was admitted to the Bar to Morgantown, Ky. in the year 1888. After that date Positions of trust and honor were bestowed upon him. In rapid succession. He was elected County Attorney in the year 1886, State Legislature in the year 1895. When the U. S. declared war against Spain in the year 1898 he volunteered, with a Co. of his home boys and served through and was mustered out with the rank of Captain. In the year 1899 he was elected State Senator. In the year 1903 he was elected District Attorney. In the Legal Arena his rank was high, as a Prosecuting lawyer he was fearless to an uninitiated degree not withstanding that he tempered all arguments with the laws of justice written in the Divine Book, as a defender he was full of recourses searching the Avenue his client had took. Seeking to find a rule of justification for the accused. When dealing with the issues of Parliamentary Nature he was able to cope with the best. On what ever Subject approached his opinions were an index of -----. In Politics he was a Staunch Republican. Standing face front at all times ready to do battle for his party. As a speaker he was forceful, eloquent and logical, as a citizen he was Patriotic in the fullest since. When our country entered the World War he gave unstinted of his time, labor and -----, --- all his energy to forward the cause to make the World safe for Democracy he loved that freedom and flag for which his father had fought. He was a big hearted man with a big disposition Neighborly, tender and sympathetic, he loved the beautiful, aura and good it was truthfully said of him “There was not a cruel fiber in his being” He was an ardent supporter of educational Progress, and always ready to lend a hand in the building of his country, “his first public speech was at Beaver Dam, Ky. the later part of May 1919 in behalf of “Good Roads” He was a born leader and ranked as such among his fellow citizens for -- years,. He was one of the organizers and was a stock holder in the Green River Republican when it was established in the year 1883, and was a faithful supporter and contributor to the paper till his death. He had been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church for 50 years --- ---his career and his work. Above everything on this earth, faithfully attending all meetings, heartily supporting the auxiliaries. He was married to Miss Mattie Taylor, April 24, 1887, they immediately established their home on Tyler Street, were they reared their family and all their joys and sorrows have been spent. While we know all things are in the hand of “Him who doeth all things well.” It seems from a human standpoint unsurprisingly said that a man with a capacity for so much good should be called from amongst his fellow associates. The primary cause of Capt. Howard’s sickness and nervous disorder of several years standing, coupled with that was a derangement of digestion. On June 13, 1919 he suffered a complete breakdown. While he was strictly speaking, never bedridden, he in no degree, at any time, recovered his normal state of health. He had seen in the Northern Infirmary since last March, were he fought to regain his health with that same dauntless courage which had kept the sails on his work of life in proper setting as he passed down the stream of time, Although he was in a weakened condition, death came somewhat unexpectedly from bowel hemorrhages on Sunday morning August 15, 1920. The body was brought home on Monday accompanied by his son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Keown. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Baptist Church, conducted by the pastor Rev. R. B. Neel. Judge McKinzie Moss paid his high tribute in a beautiful and touching eulogy, basing his remarks on his association with Capt. Howard as a Lawyer, Statesman and citizen. A full demonstration of the esteem in which he was held by his fellow country men was evidenced by the great throng of people who crowded the church house and yard, children who loved him, young men and who had received kindly advice, old men and women whose friends he had been in days past, men bent by the weight of years who had been his fathers comrades during the Civil war, men who had marched under the flag with he as their Captain. Men who had gone “overseas” under the same flag with his son. The burial services were conducted by the Masons with internment in Morgantown Cemetery. Capt Howard is survived by his widow and five children, Mrs. R. E. Kewon, Mrs. H. W. Jones, Misses. Dorsie and Ruby Howard and Mr. Enig Howard. Thus ends the last chapter in the life of one of Butler County’s most noted man. _____________________________ Column 3 CARD of THANKS We take this method to thank our friends who stood unfaltering by us with sympathetic hearts and willing hands during the – illness, death and burial of our beloved husband and father N. Lislie, Sud’t Column 7 .Improved System Is Aiding Farmer To Get Results Mr. Hill Says He Has Found Necessary Means For Relief In Trutona Louisville, Ky., Aug. 25. I think Truetona is the greatest medicine ever compounded and I’m glad to recommend it says A. J. Hill, a prosperous farmer residing near Anchorage, a suburb of Louisville. I had been suffering with a complication of troubles for some time. I had indigestion and was subsequently bothered with constipation, Lumbago and general rheumatism added greatly to my suffering. I usually felt tired and worn out in the mornings in short I was simply run down and completely played out. Before I had finished my first bottle of Truetona I realized that at last I had found the necessary means of my relief I began to have more ambition and didn’t feel so tired and worn out when I’d get up in the mornings my joints began to limber up so I could use them. My indigestion has been relieved and my bowels act as regular as could be desired now I simply feel like a new man since I’ve taken Trutona. Trutona is especially compounded to build up and strengthen weakened and rundown systems. That the perfect T---- is almost unfailing in this respect has been – testified to by not only Mr. Hill, but by thousands of others of like characters you should give this wonderful medicine a trial today. Trutona is sold in Morgantown at A. T. Dockery’s and W. T. Kittingers drug stores. When you come to the Fair bring enough change to av. Your subscription.
