War of 1812, Declaration of Soldier for Pension, State of Kentucky, County of Calloway John Ivie was seventy-six years old and a resident of Calloway Co, KY. He married his wife, Elizabeth Wells, in Henry Co, VA, on 8/20/1816. He served the full period of sixty days in the military service of the United States in the War of 1812. This statement says that he was "attached to Capt. Bayly's Company from Cumberland County Va. 5th Regiment of Virginia Militia commanded by Col. George Hairston Brigade division at Norfolk on or about the 1st of March 1814." This statement caused his pension to be delayed as their was correspondence back and forth to ascertain his true service as seen earlier as being under Lieut. Dyer. He was honorably discharged on 6/24/1814 at Norfolk VA. His service is variously said to be from March 1/6, 1814, to March 22/23/24, 1814; but see the discharge transcription. He mentions his two land warrants one for 40 acres and one for 120 acres. He states, and his witnesses confirm, that he at no time "during the late rebellion against the authority of the United States, adhered to the cause of the enimies [spelled as in the statement] of the Government giving them aid or comfort, or exercised the functions of any office whatever, under any authority or pretended authority in hostility to the United States; and that he will support the Constitution of the United States." He is applying for a pension under the provisions of the Act approved February 14th, 1871. His written signature appears in the document although it is much more feebly written than in the Bounty Land Warrant claims. Other signatures that appear in this document are these: Wm Gardner, J [John] F Ivie, L Boyd Clk.C.C.C. PENSION APPLICATION SUMMARY CARDS AND CORRESPONDENCE BETWEEN WASHINGTON, D. The correspondence included a handwritten letter from Tabitha Ivie on behalf of her mother [transcribed in full below]. Shiloh Calloway County Ky. ... June 24th 1879. ... Hon. Secretary of the Interior ... Washington City DC. Dear Sir, My father John Ivie was allowed a pension on account of services in the War of 1812, and drew it up to the time of his death, which was the 6th of December 1875. My Mother Elizabeth E. Ivie (widow of my father Jno Ivie named above) made out her application last May was a year ago, but has had no satisfactory evidence in what way it has been disposed of only that it has been received at your Department thinking probably amongst this multitude of papers and business it may have been overlooked or mislaid, others in the County have made application since and are receiving their pensions. If there is any additional proof as to identity marriage etc. it can be made. My Mother is now 81 years of age and remarkably feeble, and withall very needy, dependant in a great measure on the charity of the neighbourhood for assistance. Will you be so kind as to inform us at Shiloh Ky. what is done and doing in the case so as to give us some relief in the matter. Your most humble and obedient servant. Direct to Shiloh Calloway Co.
