Fred arrived in the USA about 1851. Frederick’s port of enter was New Orleans. Traveling with Fred, age 17, was his sister Margaretha age 9. They then most likely, traveled by steamship from New Orleans to Cincinnati. What a big responsibility for Fred. Barbara Wagner b: March of 1839 in Hesse Darmstadt, Germany, arrived in New York City on 27 Feb 1854, at the age of 16, Her family departed from Le Havre, France on the ship Havre. She traveled with her father George, mother Lillian and brother George. Frederick Wilhelm Sauer married Barbara Wagner, my Great Grand Parents on 27 Nov 1856. In Hamilton, Ohio. Barbara had 11 children with only 7 living at the turn of the century. 1. Caroline “Carrie” Sauer b: 7 Feb 1859 2. Catherine “Kate” Sauer b: 1861 3. Heinrich Michael “Fritz” Sauer b: 3 Feb 1864. His Godparents were Michael Grund and Friederich Wilhelm. 4. Friederich Christian Sauer b: 29 Sept 1867 d: 18 Mar 1918. His Godparents were Christian Bach and Freiderich Schwab. 5. Elisabetha “Lizzie” Sauer b: 26 Mar 1870. Her Godparent was Elisbetha Gruenholt. 6. George Sauer b: 1872. 7. William “Willie” Sauer b: Oct 1876 d: 23 Jul 1956. m: Berkemeyer. My Grandfather. 8. Margaret “Maggie” Sauer b: 1877 d: 15 May1947 m: 1.Clephanie 2. Schulenberg. 9. Lilla Sauer b: 2 Aug 1879 Her Godparents were Friederich and Catherine Schwab 10. Rosina Sauer b: 2 Aug 1879 Her Godparent was Jacob Veith. 11. The name of Child 11 is unknown at this time. Fred and Barbara were members of the St. Paul German Evangelical Protestant Church in Newport, Kentucky. Many of the above births were found in their records. Fred and Barbara were also Godparents of many Children. As first reported in the 1860 US Census Fred was living in Newport, Campbell Co. Kentucky. Living with Fred was his wife Barbara and Caroline age 2 their first child. Mary Wagner, age 47 and Caroline Wagner, age 17, lived in the same house. Fred also had a boarder by the name of Jimmy Emerson from Scotland. Fred’s occupation was report as a Laborer. In the 1870 Census Fred still lived in Newport, Kentucky. By now Fred and Barbara had 4 children Caroline “Carrie” age 11, Kate age 9, Henry “Fritz” age 6 and Fred age 3. Elizabeth Wagner age 58 was also reported. Fred’s occupation was listed, as an Iron Worker, the house that he owned was valued at $1,000 and his personal estate was valued at $100. 1880 Census showed Fred and Barbara living in Newport with 10 children living with them. The children were Caroline, Kate, Henry, Fred, Lizzie, George, Willie, Maggie and the twins Lilla & Rosina. Fred’s occupation was listed as a Blacksmith. Barbara was shown as having the disability labeled “Hunch Back”. Lizzie was listed as “Paralyzed”. 1890 no Census records are available. 1900, the turn of the century, Fred was 65 and Barbara was 61. They only had 3 Children still living with them. Fred age 33, Lizzie age 30 and William age 23. Fred’s occupation was a day laborer, with Fred and William wer listed as machinist. It is believed that the Twins and George died before the turn of the century 1910 showed only Barbara and her son Fred living in Newport. It is believe that Fred passed away early in 1910. No record of his death was found. 18 March 1918 Barbara’s son Fred died. The “Kentucky Death Certificate” number is 6334 Volume 13. Barbara was now alone. On 25 Jun 1822 at the age of 83 Barbara Wagner Sauer died in Newport, Kentucky.
