McGraw taken from, "The Kentucky Post, Friday, October 27, 1993, Here and There section." In the center, rear of the cemetery-kind of symbolically linking the old and new sections---is the grave of the cemetery's best known member. He was Thomas Jefferson McGraw, a young lieutenant in the Confederate Army. McGraw was captured near the Campbell-Pendleton border by Union troops in 1863, while on a recruiting mission. A new Union order-actually passed after McGraw's arrest-treated recruiters as spies. After an emotional trial, McGraw and a friend-William Corbin-were taken to Johnson Island in Lake Erie and executed on May 15, 1863. President Abraham Lincoln-well known for pardoning many prisoners facing death-rejected a plea by the family of the men to save them. The information on the graves comes from actual walking and church minutes of the Flagg Spring Baptist Church borrowed from John Robert Rouse who had taken care of the cemetery at one time. There is a small iron rod fence located over the small stone wall that some of the Morin Family are buried in. *****************************************************************************
