Verna G. Oakley, 71, died Nov. 22, 1995. He was born Jan. 4, 1924 to the late Benjamin and Sarah Perry Oakley. He was a former core driller for Harbison-Walker for 23 years, Pastor of Carter Christian Holiness Church for 30 years, member of KY Christian Conference, a World War II Army veteran and Kentucky Colonel. Survivors: his wife,Mary Skaggs Oakley; a daughter, Loretta Litteral, two sons, Raymond Oakley and Gerald Dewight Oakley; a sister Flora Butler; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Funeral arrangements by Sparks Funeral Home. Burial in Tabor Cemetery with military rites by DAV Chapter 147. Additional Comments: He was a lifetime and charter member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 147 at Grayson where he served as commander and chaplain.
