Tomes of Liberty Ky. was serving in the Phillipine Islands the time of the final surender. The war Department notified his parents on June 27, 1942, that he was missing in action at surrender of Corregidor, May 7, 1942. __He had served two years ters from their son saying he was this re-enlistment as he has been serving with the armed forces for nine years.__ On April 29,1943, his parents recieved a telegram from the War Department that he was Prisoner of War of the Japanese Government in the Phillipine Islands. He has now been transfered from the Phillipine Islands to Fukuoka Camp, Island of Honshu, Japan. His parents have recieved four cards from him since he has been a prisoner which said he was well, in good health, not under treatment and was uninjured. Mr. and Mrs. Tomes also have another son Elvyn C. Tomes in the Armed Forces now stationed in Northern Ireland.
