He is at present in the Marshall Islands and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Delk, Middleburg. -----V------ Mrs. Pina Adams, route 1, Liberty, has been advised that her husband, William R. Adams has recently returned to this country and is now in a Naval hospital at Great Lakes, ILL. He served a year in the southwest Pacific. -----V----- Sgt. Harold Wells arrived yesterday with an honorable discharge from the Army. Sgt. Wells was stationed at Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland for a long time before being sent to California where he spent some time in a hospital before recieving his discharge. -----V----- Pfc. George Cochran has returned to the Kennedy General Hospital Memphis, TN after spending a much desearved furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Everet Cochran, of the Brush Creek section. Pfc. Cochran was wounded in France in July,1944, and has only been back in this country about two months. ------V----- Corporal Vertie O. Smith of the Marine Corps Womens' Reserve and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. A. Smith of the Lebanon road, has recently been transferred from Camp Lejeune, New River, NC to Headquarters Department of the Pacific at San Francisco, Calif. She writes that she likes California fine but her first glimpse of San Francisco was through fog and mist. Cleo G. Wall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wall, of the Dry Ridge section, has been given an honorable discharge from the Army after over five years of service. He was overseas 22 months, taking part in the Tunisian and Italian campaigns as well as the invasion of France. A brother, Pvt. Elmer D. Wall, was killled in action during the campaign in Normandy on August 9th, 1944. ------V------- Marine Sgt. Delbert W. Morgan has returned to the southwest Pacific after a year spent in the states. Young Morgan enlisted in the Marines in June, 1942 and spent a year in the southwest Pacific before being returned to the states.. He informs his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.H. Morgan, that he is back with his old outfit and they seem about as glad to see him as he was to get back with the April, 1945 Pvt. Russell Brown was here to spend Easter with his family from Camp Atterbury.IN. Pvt. Owen Warfield, of Fort Knox was here to spend Easter with Mr. Warfield and children here. Glen Ware, S2C,U.S. Navy, has returned to Sampson, NY after enjoying a seven day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claud Ware of Walltown. Pvt. Marshall H. Sasser Jr. who is spending some time at a government hospital at Thomasville, GA arrived the past week to spend a 30 day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.M.H. Sasser. Mrs. Lola (or Lela) Lawhorn, of the Linnie section is in reciept of the Purple Heart awarded Pvt.Woodrow Lawhorn for wounds recieved in France. He is now in a hospital in England and getting along nicely. Marine Pfc. Nick Grooms, serving with the 5th Marine Division on Iwo Jima, writes his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Grooms this city, that he is alright and will be glad when he can tell them of his experiences in the taking of the island fom the Nips. Sgt. Harvey D. Hankia,Jr. also Pfc. Hulon F. Hankia sons of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hankia, this city, advise their parents of their safe arrival overseas. Harvey Jr. was in France when last heard from and Pfc. Hulon Hankia, advised he was in England. Pvt. Robert Mushin, Middleburg who is a member of the Third Army, 9th Armored Division,was among the first to cross the bridge over the Rhine river in Germany which his division seized shortly after crossing. Before entering the service he was an employee of the Triple A office here. Pvt. Thomas S. Jefferies, son of Deputy County Clerk S.E. Jefferies and Mrs. Jefferies has been made Acting Squad Leader at the Infantry Training Center at Camp Fannin, TX. A member Of Co B, 61st Battallion, 13th Training Regiment, Pvt. Jefferies' leadership abilities won quick recognition in his basic training cycle and he now leads the 12 men of his squad during field maneuvers. Sgt. Howard L. Carmicle arrived in the United States recently after more than thirty months overseas duty in the European Theatre of Operations and was sent to Memphis TN for hospitalization for wounds recieved in Germany some few weeks back. He telephoned his father, Mr. Jess Carmicle this city, that he expected to arrive home first of the week on a furlough.
