Petty, 75, Pawnee Drive resident and long-time farm leader and local businessman, died at 2:10 this morning, Feb. 9, 2001, at Pinecrest Manor following a long illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Second Baptist Church with the Revs. Dan Ferguson and John R. Christian officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Saturday at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home, Hopkinsville. A native of Christian County, he was born June 3, 1925, the son of the late George W. and Nannie Belle Wade Petty. He was a farmer and owner and operator of J. Petty Co., Gracey, and had been a real estate agent with Ken Morris Realtors. He had served as president of the Christian County Farm Bureau and was a director for more than 25 years. He was a 4-H leader, a director of the Kentucky Farm Bureau, had been president of the Day Lions Club, was a director of the Western Kentucky State Fair Board. He was a member and deacon emeritus of Second Baptist Church where he had been a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school director, was training director and had been moderator of the Christian County Baptist Association. He had also served on the executive board of the Kentucky Baptist Convention.
