I have transcribed these documents exactly as they were written, and I have proofread them to the best of my abilities. We, Rutha Pitman of lawful age, a resident of the (1) County of Cumberland in the State of Kentucky and Peter Shelly of lawful age of the (1) County of Clinton in the State of Kentucky upon our oaths, jointly declare that we are personally well acquainted with Mrs. Isabella Pitman widow of (2) Micajah C. Pitman now deceased, and who was late a Private in company "H" commanded by Captain Henry S. Taylor in the 3rd regiment of (3) Kentucky Infy Volunteers commanded by Col. Henry C. Dunlap in the war of 1861-2 & c. We further declare that we were likewise personally well acquainted with the said (2) Micajah C. Pitman deceased, and his said wife, the said Mrs. Isabella Pitman during the lifetime of the former, and know that they lived and cohabited together as husband and wife, and were so reputed, having never heard a question raised or a doubt expressed to the contrary, as to their being such. Furthermore, we have often heard the said (2) Micajah C. Pitman call the said Mrs. Isabella Pitman "wife," and always heard him speak of, and know that he ever treated and respected her as such relation. We also state that she is esteemed and known as a respectable woman in the community of her residence. We further declare that at the time of service, we resided in the same neighborhood, County and State with the deceased soldier, and know that he, the said (2) Micajah C. Pitman previous to his entering the said service of the United States, was a man of good sound physical health. Our knowledge of said soldier's physical condition prior to enlistment, as above stated, is founded upon actual observation and intimate acquaintance with him and not based upon information derived from others, nor upon general repute. That he died (4) whilst in the service aforesaid in the (1) City of Louisville in the State of Kentucky on or about the 11th day of May A.D. 1864, from the effects of (5) Small Pox incurred in the service of the United States, and as we verily believe from general repute, and without the slightest doubt to the contrary, whilst in the line of his duty therein. That Mrs. Isabella Pitman his widow aforesaid, applying for Army Pension by reason of the above named military services is now a widow, and has remained such ever since the death of her said husband, the said (2) Micajah C. ARMY PENSION CASE CERTIFICATE TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN. It is hereby certified, That (1) Micajah C. Pitman late a Private in company "H" commanded by Captain Henry S. Taylor in the 3d Regiment of (2) Kentucky Infy Vols. Commanded by Col. Henry C. Dunlap in the war of 1861-2 & c who it is alleged died (3) whilst in said service in Louisville in the State of Kentucky on or about the 11th day of May A.D. 1864, in consequence of (4) Small Pox, incurred in said military service, and whilst in the line of his duty, was, prior to his enlistment therein, and at the time thereof, a man of good sound physical health, and was not in any way afflicted with the (5) disease which eventuated in his death. That I make these statements from personal knowledge, having been, prior to said soldier's enlistment, the attending family physician of the household of which he was a member. That I was personally well acquainted with him during his lifetime, and know his physical condition at enlistment, from (illegible) observation, and therefore make my statements respecting him, as medical adviser in the family. I further state that I have carefully read over and fully understand the import and meaning of all the facts embodied in this Certificate, to which I cheerfully apent and freely subscribe, under oath and in due form of law. We were likewise personally well acquainted with the said Micajah C Pitman now deceased, which fact we know by general repute, and his said wife, the said Isabella Pitman during the lifetime of the former, and know that they lived together as husband and wife, and to be so reputed, without any question to the contrary. We also further state, that We were present at the marriage of the above named Micajah C Pitman and the said Mrs. Isabella Pitman whose name before her said marriage was Isabella Shelly That We were eye=witnesses to said marriage, and saw the same take place. That it occurred in the County of Clinton in the State of Kentucky on or about the 2nd day of March A.D. 1848. That Elijah Keen a Minister of the Gospel administered the rites of Marriage between said parties, and pronounced them man and wife. State of Kentucky County of Cumberland SS On this 29 day of July in the year one thousand eight hundred and 64 personally appeared before me, the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace, in and for said county and State Isabella Pitman, a resident of the (1) County of Clinton who is known to me as the (2) Widow of (3) Micajah C Pitman deceased who was a Private in company "H" commanded by Captain Henry S. Taylor in the 3d regiment of (4) Kentucky Infy Vols. Commanded by Colonel Henry C. Dunlap in the war of 1861-2 & c and who being by me first duly sworn, doth on (5) her oath state, that evidence of public record of marriage of the above named soldier with (6) herself cannot be adduced for the reason (7) She was married in Clinton County Kentucky, that said County if infested with the Rebel Guerrillas, and the records of the County Clerks Office have been destroyed by the Rebel Champ Ferguson and his gang of Guerrillas. Court, a Court of Record, within and for the County and State aforesaid, Mrs. Isabella Pitman a resident of the (3) County of Clinton in the State of Kentucky, aged 37 years, who, being first duly sworn according to law, doth on her oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress qapproved July 14, 1862: That she is the widow of Micajah C Pitman deceased, who was a Private in company "H" commanded by Capt. Henry S. Taylor in the 3d regiment of (4) Kentucky Infy Vol- unteers commanded by Col. Henry C. Dunlap in the war of 1861, and who died (5) whilst in the service aforesaid, at Louisville in the State of Kentucky on or about the 11th day of May A.D. 1864, from (6) Small Pox incurred in the service aforesaid and whilst in the line of his duty, (7) in the field. She further declares that she was married to the said Micajah C. Pitman on the 2d day of March in the year 1848; that her husband the aforesaid Micajah C Pitman died on the day above mentioned, and that she (8) has remained a widow ever since that period as will more fully appear by reference to the proof hereto annexed. She also declares that she has not, in any manner, been engaged in, or aided or abetted, the rebellion in the United States. She appoints J.H.H. Woodward of Louisville Kentucky her attorney with full power of substitution and revocation in her said behalf, and authorizes him to receive the Pension Certificate when issued. Pitman deceased, with whom, also, affiant was well acquainted in his lifetime, and who at the date of his death, was a resident of the (2) County of Cumberland in the State of Kentucky. Affiant further states that she is personally well acquainted with Mrs. Isabella Pittman who is the reputed and accredited widow of the aforesaid Micajah C Pittman deceased. Affiant further stats that she was present in the room, was eye witness to the Births when they severally took place, and acted as midwife on the accouchements of the mother of said children, the said Mrs. Isabella Pittman the reputed and accredited widow of the said (3) Micajah C. Pittman deceased. Affiant further states that she is credibly informed and believes the fact to be true, without any question to the contrary that (3) Micajah C Pittman deceased, father of the aforesaid minor children, on account of whose services and the births of said children, the aforesaid Mrs. Isabella Pittman is making application as his widow for pension, was formerly in company H commanded by Captain J Hudson in the 3d Regiment of (5) Ky Inf vols commanded by Colonel Bramlette in the War of 1861-2, &c., and that by virtue of said military services and the death consequent thereof, a right of claim for pension vests in the widow herein before named, as the legal beneficiary of said deceased soldier, said pension being entitled to augmentation in amount by the children hereinbefore named at the rate of two dollars per month, per child under sixteen years of age, agreeably to the provisions of the Act of Congress approved July 25, 1866.
