NEWS: Grand Jury - 1896 - Crittenden Co, KY -------------------------------------------- From: Brenda Jerome Date: Sat, 31 May 1997 -------------------------------------------- Crittenden Press 2 July 1896 Grand Jury During a lull in business, while the jury was discussing a basket of fine peaches, the Press scribe was invited in. He accepted the invitation and found that he was with as jolly a set of folks as one usually meets. They were: W.J. HODGES, a big 49 year old Republican and a Cumberland Presybterian; W.A. WOODALL, age 41, Republican for 41 years and a Baptist; D.W. BROOKSHIRE, age 56 years, Republican and a Baptist; D.W. DEBOE, with a luxurious growth on his chin, age 54 and a Cumberland Presbyterian; Wm. FOWLER, who has been knocking around the county for 57 years, Democrat and "goes to all the churches"; J.A. YANDELL, whose venerable looks show plainly that he has reached three score and ten and three, Republican and doesn't belong to any church; J. Frank CONGER, the liveliest of the lot, said "I am only 33, a Baptist, a Republican and the best looking of the whole lot;" W.A. ADAMS, hale and hearty at 67, a Democrat and a Cumberland Presbyterian; R.C. GIVENS, age 35, Republican when he votes, but has only voted 3 times, and a Cumberland Presbyterian; G.W. PARISH, just turning his 52nd year, Democrat and a Baptist; R.F. PICKENS, the only merchant on the panel, handsome as a man of 25 yet older, Democrat and a Presbyterian; R.W. WOOD, with a big plain honest Methodist Democrat face, has passed his 50th year. ***************************************************************************** USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities as long as this message remains on all copied material.
