Number S35113 Webb, Moses * * * * * No 19991 Kentucky to Missouri Moses Webb of Cumberland in the State of Kentucky who was a Private in the company commanded by Captain MCormack of the Regiment commanded by Colonel ___ in the Virginia line, for the term of two years from the year 1777 to the year 1779. Inscribed in the Roll of Kentucky at the rate of eight Dollars per month, to commence on the 21 day of October 1828. Certificate of Pension issued the 8th of November of 1828 and sent to H__rass Emerson Cty, Burksville Kentucky. Arrears to 4th of March 1829 35,, 61 Semi-anl. See Letter July 25. 1832 to Dennis Rockwell Jacksonville Ills. * * * * * State of Tennessee Septr 16th 1818 Overton County This day before me Harvey W Humphreys one of the Judges of the Circuit Court in & for the State of Tennessee now presiding in said County came Moses Webb in the 63rd year of his age an inhabitant of said County who being first by me Duly sworn to declare & Speak the truth and nothing but the truth touching his service in the army of the United States in the revolutionary war with a view to obtain the benefit of the provisions of the act of Congress entitled an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land & naval service of the United States in the revolutionary war" Declares & says that when he was a youth about 14 or 15 years of age he enlisted as a Drummer with Capt Nagle in the town of Reading in the State of pensylvania for the term of 18 months & was engaged in the recruiting Service. Capt Naugle commanded a company of Regulars on continental establishment but to what regiment he does not remember he Served the term of 18 months with him in the recruiting Service part of the time & during the term of his 18 months service he was in the battle of German town & had his d___ Shot to pieces & he had been five months in service before that time in what was called the flying camp. Was at the battle of White Plains a drummer also some time after his service had expired his father removed to Holston in North Carolina near the Eastern part of Tennessee he Joined Colo Shelby troops & was at the battle of Kings mountain. Afterwa__ he went with Shelby to the State of South Carolina & with Capt McElroy who resided at the _taw Springs he enlisted for one year __ McElroy commanded a troop of horse in Colo. Wayhams Regiment of Cavalry. What has become of his discharges he does not know ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ The foregoing was taken before the Day and date above written. Humprheys whose Signature appears to the foregoing was at the time of Subscribing the same one of the Judges of the Circuit Courts of Law and Equity for the State of Tennessee and now presiding in the third Circuit, and that full faith and Credit is due to his Official Attestations as such. On this day being the ninth day of October 1820 and the first day of the October County Court it being a court of record for the County and State aforesaid Moses Webb aged 64 years, resident in Cumberland County and State aforesaid who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath declare that he served in the revolutionary war as follows, and he makes the following declaration, in Order to obtain the provision made by the acts of Congress of the 18th day of March 1818 and the 1st of May 1828 That he the said Moses Webb enlisted for the term of one year on the day of November in the year 1781 – in the State of South Carolina, in the Company Commanded by Captain... McKelvey in the regiment Commanded by Colonel Mayham in the line of the State of South Carolina on the continental establishment, that he continued to serve as sergent in the said Corps as service until the...day of November 1782 when he was discharged from the said service of the United States in... County in the State of South Carolina, That he served under Captain George Nogle of the Pennsylvania line as a recruiting Drummer for the term of eighteen months prior to the entering the service, in the State of South Carolina in the year 1781 – and this declarant does not recollect the time – and that he was honorably discharged by Captain Nogle in the year 1777 and that his discharges from the Officers of the lines of Carolina & Pennsylvania, were left in the State of Pennsylvania at his fathers many years ago – That he was in the battles of German Town Santee in South Carolina, at Simmermans in South Carolina. And at Tazewell point near Charleston in South Carolina at White Plains Kings bridge & many other small engagements not recollected & too tedious to mention, and I do solemnly swear, that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not since that time by gift, sale or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof, with the intent thereby to diminish it, as to bring myself, within the provisions of an act of Congress, entitled "An act to provide for Certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the revolutionary war passed on the 18th day of March 1818" and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me, any property or securities contracts or debts due to me, nor have I any income Other than what is Contained in the schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed. One rifle gun & shot pouch worth $25-00 One mans saddle (old) N__pany bedding & clothing excepted Moses Webb The declarant is advanced in life, unable to...support himself from his own labor & frequently disqualified to do any sort of service or labour from age & infirmity his wife has been dead near four years past, he has a widow daughter with two small infant children towit, Hannah Sevier my daughter & widow and her two children named Washington and Moses first about four years old &the latter about two years old and the declarant has four sons towit, John Webb aged about 19 years, Benja. Webb aged about 14 years, Mary Webb aged 12 years and Washington Webb aged near 7 year and they now live in this County with sundry persons for their victuals & clothes. This Declarant again states that he has one other child named Moses Webb aged about 14 years and a resident of Cumberland County and that the date of his first declaration is the 16th day of September 1818... and which will accompany this declaration & schedule taken in pursuance of the act of Congress passed the first day of May 1820—This declaration and schedule sworn to & declared in the day & year first mentioned in this Declaration___ Kentucky Cumberland County &ct I John E King the Clerk of the County Court for the County aforesaid Do Certify that the foregoing oath and schedule thereto annexed are truly copied from the record of the Court aforesaid, and that is the opinion of the Court aforesaid, that the total amount in the value of the property exhibited in afsd schedule is $25 dollars. Wm Cole P.Jstce. * * * * * Application for a Transfer State of Illinois Morgan County On this sixth day of October 1832, before me, the Subscriber, a Justice of the peace for the said County of Morgan, personally appeared Moses Webb, who, on his oath, declared that he is the Same person who formerly belonged to the company commanded by Captain McCormack in the thirteenth Virginia Regiment of Infantry, under the command of Colonel Campbell in the Service of the United States during the Revolutionary War, that his name was placed on the pension roll of the State of Kentucky, from whence he has lately removed, that he now resides in the State of Illinois contiguous to St. Louis in the State of Missouri, where he intends to remain, and wishes his pension, in future, to be payable at St. Louis in the State of Missouri.
