Charles Thurman enlisted at Richmond, Virginia, in February 1777, served as private with the Virginia troops under Captains Elisha White, John Davenport, John Fleming, Fleet and Lemon and Colonel John Gibson. Charles was in the battles of Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth, and at the siege of Yorktown and was discharged in April 1783. Charles Thurman was allowed pension on his application executed November 13, 1820, at which time he was living in Cumberland Co, KY and was about 62 years of age. In 1820, the soldier referred to his two daughters, the younger about five years of age, but he did not give their names.
