He is from the old Head and Montgomery families, being a cousin of Bishop Montgomery, of California. A severe case of typhoid fever carried him away. Mr. Head leaves a wife with one child, his mother, and several sisters and brothers. [Walter was the son of Joseph David Head and Margaret Modesta Montgomery. Walter's widow, Mary Jane Coomes Head, gave birth to his fifth child two months after his death. Only one of their five children survived to school-age--my grandfather, Joseph Owen Head. Mary Jane married second Charles C. Mattingly in 1905 and had six more children, five of whom lived to adulthood.]
