Head Dies at Knottsville Sister of Hon. Zach (sic) Montgomery and the Bishop Eighty-four Years of Age She is survived by Six Children, Forty-two Grandchildren and Forty Great-Grandchildren Mrs. Margaret M. Head, a pioneer woman of Daviess county, died at the home of her son, A.L. Head, at Knottsville, at 7:20 o'clock, Tuesday evening. Death had been expected for several weeks as Mrs. Head had been growing weaker, and owing to her advanced age it was known that she could not survive. She was eighty-four years old at the time of her death. The deceased was the last surviving member of the Montgomery family. She was a sister of the Hon. Zack Montgomery, of California, and the aunt of the Rt. Rev. Bishop Montgomery, deceased. She was also the aunt of the Rev. Lucien Clements, of St. Lawrence. Mrs. Head was the daughter of Tom Montgomery, who was universally known as "Sugar Tom" Montgomery, owing to his wide reputation for making hard maple sugar on what is known as the John L. Johnson farm. Mrs. Head was born at her father's farm, three miles north of Knottsville, June 15, 1829. She was married to J.D. Head on January 11, 1848, and had lived in Daviess county all her life. She is survived by six children who are: T.M. Head, of Henderson; Z.R. Head, of Louisville; Mrs. Matilda Carrico, of Knottsville; Mrs. Rose Payne; Messrs. M.I. and A.L. Head of Knottsville. Forty-two grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren also survive the deceased. The death of Mrs. Head removes one of Daviess county's oldest and most estimable women. She was a devout member of the Catholic church and was devoted to church work. Her death will be mourned by many people as she was widely known and beloved. Requiem high mass will be sung by Rev. Lucien Clements over the remains at St. William's Catholic church at 8 o'clock this morning. The burial will be held in St. Lawrence cemetery. The pallbearers will be six grandchildren of the deceased. (end of obituary) In the Owensboro Messenger, 15 Jan 1914, p. 3: Funeral of Mrs. Head. The funeral of Mrs. Margaret M.
