ITEM I give my home plantation to my son William R. Griffith and his heirs forever with all that appertain thereto and my old family looking glass, also my big Bible. ITEM I give unto my son in law William Hansford and Mary, his wife, the tract of land whereon they now live with all its meets and bounds supposed to be 175 acres more or less and their heirs and assigns forever. I also give to my daughter Mary and her children my cyellen boy Edmond which is now 23 years old the 25th day December 1839. Which said Edmond is to serve them until he arrives to the age of 45 and then to be a free man. I also bequeath to Mary a feather bed and furniture, also my old looking glass. ITEM I give my grandson Henry Griffith my half-acre lot in the town of Hartford? To him and his heirs forever, also I give him my sugar thongs. ITEM The property I allotted to my daughter Ruth Cumming’s children they have received except Sarah Newton who holds a fourth part of Negro boy Henry. ITEM I hold my son William’s note of hand, if I should not receive the money in my lifetime my will is that the note shall be? given as his? Directed to my grandson Henry Griffith $25, to my grandson William H. Griffith $25, to Hammond Hansford $15, also to my grandson Warner Crow $15. The balance is to be equally divided between his (ten?) other sons and John Hansford and William Hansford. ITEM My will and desire is that my old servant man Allen shall be at my death a free man and my executor shall give him the said Allen ten dollars in cash. ITEM I give unto my son Remus Griffith all my personal property that is not divided and also all the household furniture, plantation utensils and the crops that be on hand at my decease and my desire is that he should take the property, have no sales have and lastly, I constitute and appoint my son William R. Griffith and William Hansford my whole and sole Executors of this my last will and testament and request they be permitted to act by the Court without giving security. In witness I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of the within named witnesses this 13th day if September in the year of our Lord 1839. Joshua Griffith (SEAL) James Field J. W. W. Trunnel and John F. Newton, two of the subscribing witnesses _____ in due form and the same also duly sworn by William R. Griffith and William Hansford the Executors therein named.
