At present I am completing a KY Archaeological Site Survey Form which will be submitted to Gwynn Henderson, Coordinator for the Kentucky Archaeological Survey. This particular area currently is being logged. The loggers are aware of this cemetery and indicate that it will not be disturbed. The foundation stones of a cabin lay in close proximity to the cemetery as well as an old road bed at the southern edge of this site. A virginia pin grove now occupies much of this cemetery. It is my hopes that this particular cemetery will shed some light in someone's geneological research. I recorded forty-two (42) stones of which four (4) were professionally carved with accompaning footstones. Of these 42 stones I feel that a good portion of them my in fact be footstones. Eight (8) stones have a rough carving on their face which would indicate the deceased, however, time has made these virtually unreadable. The stones that are readable are as follows: Sarah Kersey Jacob Kersey 1856~1946 Born Gone but not Dec. 29, 1849 forgotten Died Feb. 7, 1904 Infant Bonzo Kersey Son of Born Feb. 9, 1892 Jacob & Sarah Dead Kersey (did not read) (did not read) J.E. We Bor Apr 1787 (this date may be wrong difficult to read) Died July (could not read)- Lettering is rough on this stone Most stones appear to be of sandstone rock native to this area with little to no work (ie.) simply a rock. The four professionally carved stones are sandstone as well but not native lithic material of this site.
