Co, KY, dau of the late William and Eula Mae Lewis Herron, died June 20, 1998 in 
Lexington, Fayette Co, KY.  Preceded:  husband, Emory Lee Lewis.  Survived:  son, 
Jerry Lewis and his wife – Christy, brothers, J.C. Lewis and his wife – Patty and Nelson 
Lewis and his wife – Marsha, sisters, Mary Leslie and her husband – John, Rose Salyers 
and her husband – Arthur, Ollie Wireman and her husband – George and Janie McGlone 
and her husband – Rick, numerous nieces and nephews.  Burial:  June 23, 1998 in the 
Elliot County Memory Gardens, Sandy Hook, KY.

Maxie Johnson Williams, 88, of Olive Hill, Carter Co, KY, formerly of Stephens, Elliott 
Co, KY, born Mar 31, 1910 in Elliott Co, KY, dau of the late  James Walter and Emma 
Ison Johnson, died June 21, 1998 in Ashland, Boyd Co, KY.  Preceded:  husband, Hascue 
William, son, James Wiley Williams, brothers, Alvin Johnson, Elva Johnson and Elmer 
Johnson, 5 sisters, Missouri Williams, Hattie Richards, Jane Salyers, Madge Salyers and 
an infant.  Survived:  son, Jason Williams, daus, Wylo Dean Ray, Emma Jean Newsom, 
Sena Mae Marcile and Lena Faye Greene, brother, Cecil Johnson, sisters, Alma Ratliff, 
Esther Salyers, Itle Barker and Dexter Wilson, 21 gc, 40 g-gc, 11 g-g-gc.  Burial:  June 
26, 1998 in the Elliott County Memory Gardens, Sandy Hook, KY.

 John Woodrow Greene, 81, of Frankfort, Franklin Co, KY, formerly of Elliott Co, KY, 
born Dec 30, 1916 in Elliott Co, KY, son of the late John Will and Mary Lillian Horton 
Greene, died June 18, 1998 at his home.  Preceded:  infant son, Richard John Greene, 
dau, Fredda L. Greene, sister, Faye Redwine.  Survived:  wife, Alice Lyon Greene, sons, 
John Sidney Greene, and Billy Greene, dau, Brenda Smith, grandchildren, William 
Taylor Greene, Stephen Patrick Smith, Sherri Ann Aivils, Mary Nicole Greene, John

William Linza Dickerson, 79, of Sandy Hook, Elliott Co, KY, born Aug 11, 1918 at 
Green,  son of the late George Washington and Sarah Belle Simmons Dickerson, died 
June 20, 1998 at Lexington, Fayette Co, KY.  Preceded:  sons, Roger Dickerson and Billy 
Dickerson, dau, Janet Dickerson, brother, Milton Glenn Dickerson, sister, Anna Lou 
Greene.  Survived:  wife, Mabel Boggs Dickerson, sons, Tennyson Eugene Dickerson 
and Larry Austin Dickerson, daus, Sarah Kathryn Barnes and Garnetta Pennington,

H. Russell Wright, 90, of Parma, OH, formerly of Elliott Co, KY, born Aug 23, 1907 in 
Lucille, son of the late Wilson and Martha Jane Hutchinson Wright, died June 19, 1998 in 
Parma, OH.  Preceded:  brothers, Melvin Wright, Roy Wright, Scott Wright, Robert 
Wright and Ray Wright, sisters, Belle and Ethel.  Survived:  wife, Bernice Hutchinson 
Wright, son, Timothy Wayne Wright Sr., grandchildren, Timothy Wright Jr. and Linda 
Wintersteller, great-grandchildren, Emma Wright, Jack Wintersteller and Adam 
Wintersteller.  Burial:  June 23, 1998 in the Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted, OH.

Virgina Conley Caudill, 77, of Rush, Carter Co, KY, born Oct 18, 1920 in Carter Co, 
KY, dau of the late Jim and Maudie Barnhill Conley, died June 13, 1998 at her home.  
Preceded:  husband, Homer Caudill in 1987.  Survived:  sons, Danny Caudill, Alvin 
Caudill, Jerry Caudill and Rick Caudill, daus, Debbie Yates and Cellia Blevins, brothers, 
Bill Conley and Watt Conley, sister, Fern McCall, 6 gc, 3 g-gc.  Burial:  June 16, 1998 in

Anabel Hayes Smith, 91, of Hi Hat, Floyd Co, KY, born July 12, 1906 in Elliott Co, KY, 
dau of the late William P. and Laura Ferguson Hayes, died June 12, 1998 in 
Prestonsburg, Floyd Co, KY.  Preceded:  husband, G. P. Smith, sons, Randell Newman, 
Alvin Newman and Bobby Newman.  Survived:  son, G. B. “Jabo” Newman Jr., sister, 
Opal Kanaski, 7 gc, 3 g-gc.  Burial:  June 15, 1998 in the Newman, Cemetery, Hi Hat,

Elan Pyne, 83, of Louisa, Lawrence Co, KY, born Oct 15, 1914 in Ledocio, dau of the 
late John and Savahanna Etta McKinster Short, died June 14, 1998 in Louisa.  Survived:  
daus, Annie Bayles and Rachel King, son, Sterling Hayes, sisters, Ina Harrison and 
Pauline Van Grundy, brothers, John Milton Short, Elsie Short and Shelby Short, 13 gc, 
several g-gc.  Burial:  June 17, 1998 in the Short Cemetery, Louisa, KY.

Randle Smith, 77, of Louisa, Lawrence Co, KY, born Jan 24, 1921 in Tuscola, son of the 
late Dock M. and Ann Roberts Smith, died June 16, 1998 in Huntington, WV.  Survived:  
wife, Wanda Hammond Smith, daus, Jackie Ray, Robin Boggs and Jill Prince, sons, 
Roger Smith and Jeff Smith, sister, Ruby Holbrook, brother, Ed Smith, 8 gc.  Burial:  no

Minnie M. Caudill, 75, of  LaGrange, IN, formerly of Rowan Co, KY, born Jan 7, 1923 
in Rowan Co, KY, dau of the late Riley Alvin and Virgie Susan Caudill Johnson, died 
June 15, 1998 in LaGrange, IN.  Preceded:  husband, J. Ottis Caudill, in 1972. Survived:  
daus, Villean Maples, Barb Perry, Corean Foudray, Debby Bohl and Roxane Fetters, 
sons, Bobby Caudill, Paul Caudill, Dean Caudill, Denny Caudill, Jerry Caudill, Terry

1998 in Louisa, KY.  Survived:  husband, Arthur Blankenship, sons, James L. Beard and 
Russell A. Beard, brother,  Russell T. Wheeler.  Burial:  June 20, 1998 in the Myrtle 
Chapel Cemtery, Louisa, KY.

William J. “Billy Joe” Sexton, 70, of Hitchens, Carter Co, KY, born Feb 19, 1928 in 
Willard, Carter Co, KY, son of the late William F. and Doris Mae Bayes Sexton, died 
June 17, 1998 in the home of a son, Lenore, WV.  Preceded:  wife, Stella Marie Sexton in 
1997.  Survived:  dau, Brenda Horton, sons, William D. Sexton, and Ronald Sextom.

KY, died June 16, 1998 in Wash.  Preceded:  wife, Mary Isaacs in 1989.  Survived:  1

Harold Arthur, 73, of Ashland, Boyd Co, KY, formerly of Carter Co, KY, born Apr 25, 
1925 in Carter Co, KY, son of the late Albert And Opal Clark Arthur, died June 17, 1998 
in Green Township, OH.  Preceded:  wife, Doris Ann Stephenson Arthur.  Survived:  son, 
Paul R. Arthur, brother, Tony A. Arthur, sisters, Faye Holbrook, Bethany Holbrook,

Hazel Rose Meadows, 74, of South Shore, Greenup Co, KY, born Sept 11 1923 in Carter 
Co, KY, dau of the late John Zornes and Effie Smith Zornes Clough, died June 17, 1998 
in Portsmouth, OH.  Preceded:  husband, Jack E. Meadows in 1996.  Survived:  brothers, 
Ivan Zornes, Delbert Zornes, Claude Clough and Earl Clough, sisters, Sybil Fultz, Eva 
Mae Fowler, Freda Fultz and Virginia Hilderbrand, several nieces and nephews.  Burial:  
June 20, 1998 in the Zornes Carver Cemetery, Carter City, Carter Co, KY.

Hattie B. Huffman Kitchen, 91, of Grayson, Carter Co, KY, born Aug 16, 1906 in 
Semoria, dau of the late Finely and Minnie Brown Huffman, died June 19, 1998 in her 
home.  Preceded:  husband, Orville Kitchen in 1973.  Survived:  dau, Loretta Johnstone, 
brother, Wake B. Huffman, 4 gc, 4 g-gc, 2 g-g-gc.  Burial:  June 20, 1998 in the Kiser-
McGinnis Cemetery, Iron Hill.

Jarrett Hunter Stone, infant, son of  Douglas and Vickie Dailey Stone of Morehead, 
Rowan Co, KY, died shortly after birth on June 17, 1998 in Lexinton, Fayette Co, KY.

the late Ed and Bertha Gambill Boggs, died June 18, 1998 in Sandy Hook, Elliott Co, 
KY.  Preceded:  wife, Edith Ellen Boggs.  Survived:  daus, Imogene Browning, Jessie 
Lee Robinette, Phyllis Louise Salyers, Wilma Ilene Pennington and Jo Ann Salyers, sons,
