Brian Scott Black, age 27, of Sandy Hook, KY, born Oct. 2, 1970 in Rowan Co., died Tuesday,
May 12, 1998 in Huntington, WV.  Son of Orear Black and Betty Smith Black.  Survived by wife
Felicia Thornberry Black (dau of Jimmy and Brenda Thornberry), maternal grandmother Hannah
Smith, brothers Roger Dale Black and Paul David Black, three sisters, Denise Black, Anita
Dickerson, and Sandy Nanny.  Serviving nieces and nephews are Jennifer Jackson, Jessica
Skaggs, Tara Nanny, Christopher Dickerson, Christian Schell and Joshua Schell.  Burial
Thursday, May 7th at Elliott Co. Memory Gardens.

Curtis Riley, age 79, of Ohio Furnace, OH, born Jan 23, 1919 in Carter Co, died Sunday, May 3,
1998 in Ashland.  Son of the late Clifford C. and Letha Mae Buckler Riley.  Surviving is son
David Riley, dau Sue Pelfrey, two brothers, Sable Riley, and John Riley, two sisters Marie
Sprouse and Wanda Jean Fannin and 3 grandchildren.  Burial May 6th, 1998 in the Buckeye
Cem., Scioto Co., OH.

Dixie M. Lewis, age 64, of Sandy Hook, KY, born Oct 8, 1933 in Elliott Co, died Fri., May 8,
1998 Lexington, KY.  Dau of the late Walter and Ethel Barker Dehart.  Preceded in death by
brothers Joe Mitchel DeHart, Vernon Vaughn DeHart, and Wayvel Lawrence DeHart, and sister
Charlene Rose DeHart.  Survivors: husband Earl Lewis, sons Johnny Lewis, and Jackie Lewis,
brothers Darrell DeHart and Wendell DeHart, sisters Ruby Sloas, Shirley Gullett, Faye
Hutchinson, and Patty Cox and 7 grandchildren.  Burial May 11th, 1998 Elliott Co. Memory
Gardens.

Floyd Salyer, age 49, of Morehead, KY, born Mar 12, 1949 in Magoffin Co, KY, died May 4,
1998 in Fort Thomas.  Son of Richmond Salyer and the late Anna Adams Salyer.  Survivors:
wife, Vernie Little Salyer, son, Anthony Wayne Salyer, dau, Jessica Renee Salyer, brothers John
Salyer and Lloyd Salyer, sisters Janet Franklin, Betty Utterback, Pauline Salyer, Brenda Salyer,
Connie Blanton and Bonnie Salyer, stepsons Buddy, Jeff, Rob, Joe and Jason Littleton, step-dau
Vickie Caudill and one grandson.  Burial May 8th, 1998 at Conley Cem., Salyersville, KY.

Burley Ingle, age 79, of Mansfield, OH, born Oct. 2, 1918 in Rowan Co., KY, died Sun. May 3,
1998 in Ashland, OH.  Son of Mason and Martha Brown Ingle.  Survivors: wife Bertha Childress
Ingle, dau .LaDonna Fowler, son Tommie Ingle, and three grandchildren.  Burial May 9th, 1998
at Mount Pisgah Cem.

Guy Jackson, age 88, of Grayson, KY, born July 5, 1909 in Carter Co., KY, died Mon. May 4,
in Elliott Co., KY.  Son of late John Morgan and Ida May Creech Jackson.  Preceeded in death
by wife, Mage Lee Pennington Jackson, son Larry Richard Jackson, and dau Barbara Ann
Jackson.  Surviving: sons John, Bob, Junior, Gene, Joe, Raymond and Gary Jackson, daus Linda
Sexton and Margaret Flaugher, 35 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-
grandchildren.  Burial May 7th, 1998 at East Carter Memory Gardens in Grayson, KY.

Lou Emma Floyd Compton, age 92, of Morehead, KY, born Nov 28, 1905 in Pulaski Co., KY,
died May 9, 1998 in Morehead, KY.  Dau of the late Cornelius and Ollie Adams Floyd. 
Preceded in death by husband Brent F. Compton in 1962 and son Floyd Keith Compton in 1995. 
Surviving: dau Judy Cain, brother, Herman Floyd, sister Helen Warner, four grandchildren and
one great-grandchild.  Burial May 13th, 1998 Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Somerset, KY.

Gordon R. Vanderhoof, age 65, of Ironton, born Sept 29, 1932 in Lawrence Co., KY, died
Saturday May 9, 1998 in Ironton, OH.  Son of Lawrence Vanderhoof and the late Hazel Massie
Vanderhoof.  Survivors: wife, Ruth Stapleton Vanderhoof, son, Brian Keith Vanderhoof, sisters,
Phillis Barker, Linda Fugett, and Edna Dillow, one grandchild, one great-grandchild.  Burial
May 12th, 1998 at Woodland Cem.  

Charles J. Isaacs, age 85, of Grayson, born Apr. 4, 1912 in Carter Co., KY, died May 8, 1998 in
Grayson, Carter Co., KY.  Son of the late Henry L. and Nellie Caudill Isaacs.  Surviving: Wife,
Essie Boggs Isaacs, sons, Charles R. and Henry L. Isaacs, sisters, Samantha Church, Ruth
Scaggs, Catherine Knipp, Edith Glancy and Marie Rogers, 12 grandchildren, 18 great-
grandchild, and one great-great-grandchild.  Burial May 11th, 1998 at East Carter Memory
Gardens, Carter Co., KY.

Albert Sidney "Sid" Johnson, age 86, of Morehead, born Dec. 10, 1911, in Elliott Co., KY,
died Saturday, may 9, 1998 in Morehead, Rowan Co., KY.  Son of the late Lee and Eliza Brown
Johnson.  Survivors: daughters, Othelia Kegley and Janice Martinez, brothers, Willis and Ben
Johnson, sisters, Beulah Webb, Nola Roberts and Lola Howard, seven grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.  Entombment May 12th, 1998 at Forest Lawn Mausoleum, Morehead,
Rowan Co., KY.

Gladys Lillian Follman Travers, age 83, of Morehead, born Mar 18, 1915 in Chicago, Ill., died
Friday, May 8, 1998 in Morehead, Rowan Co., KY.  Dau of the late George and Celia
Palmerville Follman.  Preceded in death by husband, Leroy Travers.  Survivors: son, Anthony 
Michael Travers, dau, Stacy Susan Wages, brothers, Vincent and Harold Follman, sister, Dorothy 
Sweeney.  Burial May 10th, 1998 at Wheatfield Cem, Wheatfield, Ind.

Rosa L. McCoy Sparks, age 67, of Olive Hill, born Aug 28, 1930 in Olive Hill, Carter Co., KY,
died Friday, May 8, 1998 at Morehead, Rowan Co., KY.  Dau of the late James Malcolm and
Mary Jane Suttles McCoy.  Survivors: husband, Allen Gene Sparks, sons, Timothy Allen Sparks
and Stephen B. Sparks, brothers, Woodrow, Lonnie and Kenny McCoy, sister, Sue Mabry, four
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Burial May 11th, 1998 at McFerren Cem.

William "Billy" Hannah, age 67, of Grayson, born Feb 5, 1931, in Grayson, Carter Co., KY,
died Wednesday, May 6, 1998 in Ashland, Boyd Co., KY.  Son of the late Paul and Betty Jones
Hannah.  Preceded in death by wife Doris Skaggs Hannah in 1994.  Survivors: sisters, Virginia
Dean and Betty McFadden.  Burial May 8th, 1998 at HannahCem.

Beatrice Salmons Fitch, age 72, of Inez, born Feb 8, 1926 in Lawrence Co., KY, died Tuesday,
May 5, 1998.  Dau of late Phil and Carrie Muncy Salmons.  Survivors: husband, Sidney Fitch,
son, Lonnie Fitch, daughters, Sharon Kirk and Ruth Fry, brothers, Bill and Bob Salmons, sisters,
Ruth Salmons, Fern Kazee, Eva Fox, Patricia Clark, and Shirley Johnson, 11 grandchildren and 8
great-grandchildren.  Burial May 7th, 1998 at Fluty Lick Cem, Inez, KY.

B. W. Maynard, age 69, of Louisa, born Apr 15, 1929 in Gulnar, died Friday, May 8, 1998 in
Louisa, KY.  Son of the late Delmar and Maudie Sesco Maynard.  Survivors: wife, Wllen Mae
Maynard, daughters, Melinda Christian, Ruth Fissler, Bonnie Russell, Mildred Newsome, and
Fonnie Elliott, son, Donnie Maynard, sisters, Eunice Smith and Loy Cline, 19 grandchildren, 15
great-grandchildren.  Burial May 10th, 1998 at Maynard Cem.
