M. Alice Howerton, age 86, of 95 Park Village, born Mar 11, 1912 in Elliott Co., KY and died 
Friday, Sept. 11, 1998.  Dau of the late Tillman and Laura Osborn Conn.  Preceded in death by 
husband, Ray Howerton in June 1973, brother Jimmy Conn, sisters, Gladys Johnson, Mae Hubbard, 
Opal Carter, Linnie Lewis, Doris Conn and Dorothy Conn.  Survivors: daughters and son-in-laws, 
Glen and Anna M. Gearheart, Garnis and Sally Hall, Robert and Laura DeLay, sisters, Myrtle 
Stuthard and Janice Simmons, 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and best friend Emily 
Gearhart.  Burial Sept 15th, 1998 at Oakland Cem. in Shelby, OH.

Everett Roscoe Conn, age 85, of Crestline, OH, born Dec 25, 1912 in Elliott County, died Friday, 
Sept 18 in Mansfield, OH.  Son of the late Jerry and Josie Skeens Conn.  Preceded in death by 
brothers, Virgil and Ernest Conn, sister, Lorene Kegley.  Survivors: brother, Luther ABuck@ Conn, 
sister, Audrey Pennington.  Burial Sept 21, 1998 at Elliott County Memory Gardens, Sandy Hook, 
Elliott Co., KY.

Charles Sparks, age 84, of Firebrick, born Aug 11, 1914 in Elliott Co., died Monday, Sept 14, 
1998 at Firebrick.  Son of the late Dock and America Francis Sparks.  Preceded in death by wife, 
Mildred Diamond Sparks in 1970, son, Gary Dean Sparks.  Survivors: sons, Charles E., Dock M., 
Henry, Donald and Bobby Sparks, daughters, Patricia Brown, Ethel Lyons, Donna Truman, Debra Pope, 
and Gladys Miracle, 32 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren.  Burial Sept 17th, 1998 at 
Firebrick Cem.

Edith Perfater, age 74, of Elliott Co., formerly of Westwood, born Aug 7th, 1924 in Ashland, Boyd 
Co., KY, died Tuesday, Sept 15, 1998 at Morehead, Rowan Co., KY.  Dau of the late Oscar Edward 
and Esther Lee Chapman Perfater.  Survivors: uncle (who raised her) Burnice Maggard and 3 
cousins.  Burial Sept 18th, 1998 in the Dixon Cem.

Rev. H. Hertis Stone, age 66, of Mansfield, OH, formerly of Olive Hill, born Jul 30, 1932 in 
Olive Hill, Carter Co., KY, died Wednesday, Sep 16, 1998 at Mansfield, OH.  Son of the late Frank 
and Norma Garvin Stone.  Survivors: wife, Elizabeth Ann ALibby@ Stamper Stone, sons, Hertis Jr., 
Randy and James Stone, daughters, Debra Hecht, Pamela Stafford and Karen Daily, brothers, Bob, 
Dave and Ronnie Stone, sisters, Opal Darlington, Charlotte Johnson, Dorothy Peters, Delores 
Peters, Barbara Wahrenberger and Brenda Kay Colvin, 17 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren.

Ivan Cassity, age 73, of Elkfork, born Feb 5, 1925 in Morgan Co., KY, died Tuesday, Sept 22, 1998 
at Morehead, Rowan Co., KY.  Son of the late Hal and Stella Buckner Cassity.  Preceded in death 
by son Winfred Cassity Jr., sister, Juanita Cassity.  Survivors: wife, Mazie Elliott Cassity, 
daughters, Irene Elliott, Nadine Elliott, Brenda Cassity and Imojean Vest, sons, Denzil and 
Charles Cassity, sisters, Ella Moore and Mozell Trimble, 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren.

Mary Lou Sparks, age 88, of Louisa, born Sept 24, 1909 in Lawrence Co., KY, died Monday, Sept 14, 
1998 in Huntington, WV.  Dau of Late John and Martha Belle Roberts Branham.  Preceded in death: 
husband, W. D. Sparks, dau, Bertha Dellajane Roberts.  Survivors: dau, Martha Kiser, sons Bill 
John and Daniel Reid Sparks, 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild.  Burial: Sept 16th, 1998, 
Sparks Cem, Hood, KY.

Samuel M. Varney, age 76, of Columbus, OH, born Mar 12, 1922 at Silver Creek, WV, died Sept 14, 
1998 at Columbus, OH.  Son of late John B. and Lucinda Herald Verney.  Preceded: dau Linda Gail 
Varnery.  Survivors: wife, Ivory ATommy@ Dillon Varney, sons, Samuel E. , Thomas J., and Dwight 
D. Varney, dau, Julie Ann Bowens, sisters, Pearl Browning and Tinnie Evans, brother, Franklin 
Varnery, 16 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren.  Burial: Sept 17th, 1998 at Fulty Lick Cem.

Roy F. Easterling, age 93, of Blairs Mill, born May 18, 1905 in Morgan Co., KY, died Sept 16, 
Morehead, Rowan Co., KY.  Son of late Jim Tom and Rachel Frances Blair Easterling.  Preceded: 
wife, Mary Crystal Nickell Easterling.  Survivors: sons, Reginald and Emerson Easterling, 
daughters, Mae Perry, Wanda Flannery, and Geneva Kidd, 22 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 
27 great-great-grandchildren.  Burial: Sept 18th, 1998 at Blairs Cem., Blairs Mill, KY.

Hazel Estes Beckelhymer, age 79, of Morehead, born May 3, 1919 at Hamilton, OH, died Dept 14, 
1998 at Elliott Co., KY.  Dau of late Wakeman and Emma Pearl Miller Estes.  Survivors: husband, 
Robert Beckelhymer, sons, Robert McCollum, Walter McCollum, Raymond Beckelhymer, and Steven 
Beckelhymer, daughters, Darlene O=hara and Cheryl Moore, brother, Donald Estes, sisters, Della 
Reece and Pauline McCollum, several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.  Burial: Sept 
17th, 1998 at Bolan Cem., in Estill Co., KY.

Jerry Ray Sparkman, age 47, of Fort Wayne, Ind., born Sept 25, 1950 in Rowan Co., KY, died Sept 
14, 1998 at Fort Wayne, Ind.  Son of Joseph Cecil Sparkman of Morehead and late Loretta June Ison 
Sparkman.  Survivors: dau,. Sonia Lynn Hoover, sons, Jerry and  Christopher Sparkman, brother, 
Ricky Joe Sparkman, sisters, Beverly Sue Schuber and Penny Gail Miller.  Burial: Sept 18th, 1998 
at Clearfield Cem, Clearfield, Rowan Co., KY.

Warren H. Baugh, age 66, of Hamilton, Ind., formerly of Lawrence Co, KY, born Dec 22, 1931 in 
Lawrence Co., KY, died Sept 15, 1998 at Hamilton, OH.  Son of late Tom and Cora Newsome Baugh. 
Survivors: wife, Alfreda Pickens Baugh, dau, Vickie Norton, sons, Daniel W. Baugh, sister, Mary 
Reed, brothers, George, William and Alonzo Baugh, 6 grandchildren.  Burial:Sept 19th, 1998 at 
Buchannon Chapel Cem., Zelda, KY.
