Adkins 1905-1991 William Vernon "Joe" Adkins, 85, of Garrison, died Saturday, Jan. 19, at Scioto Memorial Hospital in Portsmouth, Ohio. Mr. Adkins was born July 22, 1905, in Elliott County, a son of the late William Landford and Mattie Adkins Adkins. His wife Mary Ann Elliott Adkins, died in 1971. He was a retired farmer and heavy equipment operator for the Kentucky Department of Highways. Surviving are two daughters, Betty Moore of Garrison and Mrs. Claude (Shirley) Wright of South Shore; two brothers, Melvin Adkins of Wheelersburg, Ohio and Homer Adkins of Okeechobee, Fla.; a sister Dorothy DeHart of Morehead; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild. The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg by Rev. Gene Miracle. Burial in the Collier Cemetery.
