Millard "Red" Hayes, 81, of S. East St. Waverly, died Sunday morning at his
residence.  He was born April 23, 1918 in Hazard Co., KY., to the late Edward and 
Atlas Crisp Hayes. He was preceded in death on Feb. 6, 1997, by his wife, Beatrice 
Hunter Hays, whom he married February 26, 1943. Surviving are a son, Edward L. 
Hayes, Waverly; a daughter, Annthea Gozzard, Morehead KY.; two grandchildren Heather 
Beatrice Gozzard, Morehead, and Hays Gozzard, Lexington Ky.; two brothers, Lawrence 
Hays, Waverly, and Benjamin Hays, Morehead; and a sister Lida Dean, Sheffield, Ill..  
Mr. Hayes was a retired Master Mechanic. He was the owner of the former Hays Gulf 
and Marathon Stations in Waverly, a member of the Waverly First Baptist Church, a 
member of the Masonic Lodge #576 F. & A.M. in Sandy Hook, Ky., a founding member of 
the Southern Ohio Remote Control Airplane Club, and a Army Air Force Veteran of 
WW II.  Funeral services will be held 1p.m. Saturday at the Waverly first Baptist 
Church , with Ernie Bowman and Rev. Gary Pack officiating. Friends may call on 
Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Botkin Funeral Home, Waverly, and one hour prior to 
the service at the church on Saturday. A Masonic Service will be held Friday at 
7 p. m. at the funeral home.  Military graveside services will be held 2 p.m. 
Sunday, April 16, 2000, in the Hunter Family Cemetery, Sandy Hook, Ky., under the 
direction of the Lewis and Ferguson Funeral Home, Sandy Hook..
