Richard Oldham
S 14053 N.C.

In Estill County, Kentucky, on the 14th day of August, 1832, before Nicholas 
Merrill, Justice of the Peace of said county, Richard Oldham age 87, made oath; 
That in 1777 he served a tour in the militia from Caswell County North Carolina 
under his brother Captain John Oldham. Colonel Moore was commander-general; 
Butler was General. That they marched down below White Marsh, North Carolina and 
had a skirmish at that place with the British and Tories. He was out about 3 
months. Soon afterward, he performed a 2nd., tour under the same captain of the 
country, checking the British and Tories. That he was out 3 months or more. He 
served a 3rd., tour under John Oldham; was at the Battle of Gingon with General 
Greene. He was out about 3 months. Besides the tours performed by himself, he 
substituted for 2 Tories in one, for 6 months and one for 3 months.

Richard Oldham, Jr., and Hezekiah Oldham, residents of Madison County made 
certification that from infancy they have been well acquainted with Richard 
Oldham, the applicant, and to his good character.

On the 21st, of January 1833, Richard Oldham appeared before a Justice of the 
Peace and made oath supplementary to his former one that; he was born in Faquier 
County Virginia on the 1st of March 1745 and has a record of his age in his 
Bible at home. That Richard Oldham, Jane and Hezekiah Oldham, residents of 
Madison County Kentucky have long known him and can testify to his character.

Samuel Kelly, clergyman of said county, made certification to his belief in the 
statements of Richard Oldham.

Richard Oldham of Estill County Kentucky, who was a private in the company 
commanded by Captain Oldham of the Regiment commanded by Col. Moore in the North 
Carolina line was inscribed on the Pension roll of Kentucky, to commence on the 
4th of March 1831. Certificate of the pension was issued 20th of April 1833.
