In Estill County, Kentucky on October 17, 1820, William Styvers, aged 64, 
resident of Estill County, made oath: That he served in the Revolutionary War in 
the regiment under Colonel Thomas Marshall in the company commanded by Captain 
Joseph Spencer. The date of his original declaration was 6th of October 1818, 
for which he received a pension certificate, dated 13th of February 1819. That 
he is inscribed on the Kentucky Roll. He also made a schedule of his property. 
That he has a wife aged 60 years. That he is by occupation a cooper and reed 
maker, but that he is unable to pursue his occupation because of old age and 
disease. That one of his hands is crippled. That these are his children, one son 
aged 15 years and another aged 12 years.

On October 6, 1818, in Montgomery County, William Styvers, aged 62 appeared and 
made oath: That he is a citizen of Kentucky and resident of Estill County. That 
he was enlisted for 2 years at the Long Bridge, Virginia, in April or May 1775 
or 1776, by Joseph Spencer and served in the company commanded by Captain Joseph 
Spencer, of the 7th Virginia Regiment commanded by Colonel McClanahan. That he 
continued to serve till April or May of 1777 or 1778 in Virginia. That he was in 
the service of two years as per his enlistment and was in the Battles of Gwynn's 
Island and at the Long Bridge which las battle was fought the year before the 
above enlistment, but that he was in service for 1 year under the same captain, 
before his enlistment, as stated above.

William D. Richardson stated that he is well acquainted with William Styvers, 
and made affidavit to the truthfullness of his statement, before Judge Benjamin 
Wills, Judge of Montgomery County, Kentucky.

William Styvers of Estill County, Kentucky, who was a private in the regiment 
commanded by McClanahan in the Virginia Line for 2 years, was inscribed on the 
invalid pension roll of Kentucky, to commence on the 6th of October, 1818. 
Certificate of the Pension was issued February 12, 1819.
