He was a twin to Daniel Daughhetee. He enlisted with his brothers John and Daniel for service in the War of 1812. He was captured with his brother Daniel in the Battle of the Thames. He was tomahawked and scalped in the presence of his brother who was so infuriated he tore himself loose from his captors and killed several before they could recapture and restrain him. Daniel was red headed which fact saved his life, his captors being superstitious about scalping a red headed captive.
