Last Name First Name Middle Name Birth Death Comment -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lewis Thomas 9/7/1809 Additional Comments: The only reference to Lewis' burial is contained in the 12 August 1809 Kentucky Gazette which surprisingly appears to report his death and burial PRIOR to occurrence! The month of the death date above might be off by one month. Lewis, it was reported, was en route to Virginia when his death occurred. His body was returned to Lexington for interment on his farm. He was a trustee of the First Baptist Church from at least September 1789 to 1806. Lewis' heirs as recorded in WB B, Fayette County Court Clerk's Office) include wife Elizabeth; sons Hector, Asa,Stephen, Thornton Alpheus, and Douglas; grandson Edward Ambrose Dudley and son in law Jephthah [name var. spelled) Dudley. Executors were Henry Payne, Sr. & Asa Lewis. Wits. were Levi Calvert, James Beatty & Henry Payne. These names may lend a clue to the location of Lewis land and burial site. Lewis' daughters per will were Nancy (m Garrard); Mary "Sally" (m.Henry Clay 2 June 1836); Katherine "Kitty" (m. Henry Payne Sr.) and Sophia, unmaried at time of execution of will, but later m. John T. Johnson. Other family members may have been buried at this site either prior or subsequent to Lewis' burial.
