It is, therefore, interesting that Elizabeth is buried here, rather than at the beautifully planned Howard family burial site at which another of her three daughters is interred. Elizabeth Howard had married Edward Payne on 1 ebruary 1791. Worden Pope Churchill may have been a relative (brother?) of Eliza Ann Churchill Payne who had married Capt James B. Payne, above, on 15 June 1825. Little more is known of Judith Carter than the name of her husband and that his family came from Lancaster County VA. Her obituary was reported in the local press. A survey of this site on 7 August 2003 revealed only five stones which were readily identifiable. Mercifully, several surveys had been conducted over earlier years, and that listed above is a compilation of all, combined with independent research and the city's survey (FA 393) completed by the Historic Preservation Office.
