Ellis Additional Comments: Family research reports that Hezekiah Ellis II accompanied his brother, Capt. Wm. Ellis, and The Traveling Church from VA to KY. Captain Ellis was m. 18 June 1786 in Fayette County to Elizabeth Shipp (See also Ellis-Shipp Family Cemetery). In 1838-9, the city directory reported that Ellis owned 255 acres of property on Cleaveland [sic] Rd. The infant "Willie" [William Marshall] Smith, was the son of Mary Elizabeth Ellis Smith, w/o Wm. H. Smith. Mrs. Smith, a d/o Hezekiah II, had died 12 May 1853, a few months after the b/o of her son, leading to the possibility she, too, was buried here. There is no reported marker for Hezekiah Ellis I at this site, but some family researchers are reported to believe he too was buried here. It should be noted that his will is reported to have been admitted for probate in Spotsylvania County VA, but that does not rule out the time when KY was part of VA. His wife, Mildred Burbridge Ellis, may also have been buried here. She is reported to have died 1 April 1811 in Fayette County KY. In 1942, Anna Steele Cook, a single person, conveyed (DB 315-506) to J. H. Graves for $1 and assumption of a mortgage, the property where this cemetery is located. Its legal description is that listed above. The "graveyard" was reserved from the 148.7 acre transfer. In 1952, this property was conveyed in trust to Jacob H. Graves, Jr. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ky/fayette/cemeteries/ncm40ellisfam.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/kyfiles/
